Default Gas Tank Fabrication material choice?

I've built a few gas tanks and used .125 3003 aluminum. I remember it being heavier than I expected. Just courious to hear what material others have used to build gas tanks. I would think a thinner material would be ok just didn't have the ***** to try it.
