ok to run 5w-30 in base?
like the title says, is it ok to run 5w-30 in a base model rsx? being summer time(soon) in texas im wondering if my engine will take kindly to the added viscosity.
I wouldn't worry about a slightly higher viscosity in warmer temps. Higher viscosity in low temps might not be so good, though.
I assume your manual recomends 5W-20? If so, 5W-30 isn't going to hurt it. The lower viscosity is mainly to achieve a slightly higher MPG on a cold engine in my opinion. If your car is still under warranty, I would suggest you follow what the manual recomends. There's less chance of having problems with warranty claims for engine problems.

Viscosity won't matter and they can't void a warranty for putting synthetic or different viscosity in there.
I called the dealer on it and they just sat there and told me over and over they don't recommend it but I got them to admit it won't void the warranty after like 5 minutes...
No reason it should. It's oil. I lubricates...
