I just noticed this noise today coming from my tranny............when I'm in gear and the RPMS are slowly dropping below 3000 RPMS........I hear this kind of weird rubbing /winding down noise from the front right side of my car.......sounds like the tranny....anyone know what that could be?

 

What kind of fluid are you using? I use Castrol 10w-30 and I have that sound you talk of.

 

I haven't even touched the fluid since I bought the car.....it only has 19,000KMs on it.......although next time I get my oil changed I'm going to get them to flush the tranny

 

any other thoughts?

 

ya, that'd be a good idea. sounds like the bearings in your tranny aren't movin freely

 

the best advise I could give you, DO IT YOURSELF! remember that old saying? if you want it done right, do it yourself.

doing the tranny fluid is very easy, also the motor oil is easy too. learn your car, learn how to do and enjoy the knowledge.

Well it seems like from you list of mods, you have nothing that could cause your tranny to make noises. Just go in there and insist that they look at it. They used to give me **** all the time too. Just go in there and don't take **** from them.

hmm, im probably wrong, but syncros? my friend with before getting his spoon tranny was messing around with his gsr one, and he kept pointing out the winding down noise the syncros make! im probably wrong, jus shooting in the dark here

 

I'm having the exact same problem. Right at 3K rpms it has a rattling/vibrating sound. I'm hoping if I change out the tranny fluid that will take care of it. Last thing I need is some tranny problems. Any results with yours yet? I have a short throw so Acura won't cover any tranny problems. I hate them. Let me know what happened with yours and what you needed to do to solve this annoying problem.

i had my tranny flushed and it still makes the same noise..........i doubt its syncros....cause it happens in every gear......i'm starting to doubt that its a transmission problem.......it just sounds like the noise is coming from that area

 

I had the same problem. The noise was very loud at low RPM's. I thought my tranny and JDM Final Drive were FU@#ED UP! Luckily, it was just a bearing in the casing that went bad. There were only 4 metal ***** left in the bearing. Luckily I hd the Spoon Sports Magnetic Drain Plugs to save the day. When we pulled it out, it had an AFRO of metal shavings. The bearings were cheap, so, if that is your problem, it should be an easy fix. Good Luck!

Is it easy to pull those bearings out and replace them? Or is it a time consuming pain in the ***?

 

why just at 3k?...........i don't understand.......if you had a bad bearing.....wouldn't it rattle all the time.......and i don't even hear a rattle.......its like a low winding down....only lasts for like 300-400 RPM.....starts right at 3000 RPMs

 

I get a whining noise from my tranny when I let off the gas and let it the rpms wind down ever since I did my ATS final drive. I dont think it is the bearings since we replaced all of them with new ones since we already had the tranny open. I think the noise is just the lash between the fd and counter shaft (we measured the lash upon install and everything was within factory spec).....I think that others with my setup hear the same noise I do, but with a stock tranny I would just take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

So I have a question.... do others with the ATS FD hear any whining noises since doing your fd install?

I like the noise...it sounds bad *** in my opinion, kinda like the gears in my friends camaro. AssPenny, thanks for the reply.....its nice to know that my tranny isnt the only one making noise.

 

i've had a lot of IM's........apparently a lot of R owners have this problem.......i know this noise wasn't here before and my car is stock so something obviously happened

 

I have a JDM FD and after the install is when I heard the winding down type sound. It doesn't bother me at all .
