HELP!!! oil on spark plugs...
so i pulled my spark plugs out to check them quick and when i did the one was covered in oil, i dont know if its because there may have been a little oil in the tube or what, but i then shined a flash light into each cylinder and all 4 pistons are slightly wet on top of them... every cylinder's spark plug was dry except for that one but im pretty sure its because there was a little bit of oil in the spark plug tube... i had the engine fully rebuilt about 4k miles ago and babied it for the first 1k miles ( didnt go over 3krpm for first 500 miles and no higher then 4k rpm for next 500 miles)... is this normal? like will the top of the pistons be slightly wet or should they be dry? the car is running fine but its throwing a cel as soon as i start it but i cant read the code for some reason so i will be taking to a shop to have that read for me then.
oh, i also forget to mention that the only time the car smokes it when i first start it up and only for a few minutes, but i dont know if that because its still real cold out or what because as soon as i start driving, it isnt smoking any more, and then when i park and let it idle for a few minutes to cool down it still doesnt smoke. its only when i first start it up after its sat for a few hours.... i dont know if im just being paranoid or what, and maybe the pistons are just black and im thinking they look slightly wet even though they arent. but any advise would be appreciated
Your spark plug tube seals are leaking, they are mounted in the valve cover. You might as well change the valve cover gasket while its off. You can get a kit with everything you need, or get the stuff separate. Also check your pcv valve while your at it.
that will be &7 shown in the pic below and part number is 12342-PG6-000 about $2.5 each at most. u might also want to replace the valve cover gasket too
yah, i got the spark plug tube gaskets and the valve cover gasket today, i also drove the car for a little but and re checked inside the cylinders, when i pulled the plugs out they are dry, but when i used a flash light and looked down into the cylinders, each the pistons didnt look wet, they just looked real black so im pretty sure it was just the tube seals leaked and then ran onto the spark plugs when i pulled them out. i did find one last oil leak from the back the block that i am going to try and fix tomorrow and then i will keep an eye on the oil level to see if it changes since i wont have any oil leaking after i fix that last one...
