Paint bubbling on ITR wing
I got some paint work done to my R end of last year. I got the whole front end painted hood, both bumpers, both fenders, bumper filler in the rear and the wing. My problem is after about 2 weeks my wing started to bubble. I wend back to the shop had it redone and not went to look at my car being stored and the same thing. Everything else bumpers to the hood is fine. Should I just replace the wing or what?
Hmmm...is the wing stock? I'd post some pics to get a better look at what you're dealing with but you said the car is/was in storage, right? I dunno. If its peeling from the wing but not the other plastic pieces you had painted like the bumpers then I have no clue. The wing should be the same ABS plastic or urethane that your bumpers are made of if I'm not mistaken. Something is preventing a good adhesion between the paint and your wing. I'd try to get it repaired and resprayed by a different shop before I replaced it tho.
Yes the wing is stock and has many small bubbles looks like rain drops that bead on a waxed car. (Will get some pics up soon.) Not sure what happened to the plastic but will get some other local shop opinion on it.
if the wing is oem then its fiberglass...several things could be the cause of it...did you wax the wing or any part of the car after it was painted, and if so how long after it was out did you do it??? If you did wax it before all the solvents evaporated out of the paint, then what your begining to experience is solvent pop. If this is the case then youre going to have to get your car redone, if you didnt wax it then it was the painters error, they didnt clean the surface or they had contaminents in the paint or they had water in there air lines...

what do you mean by "touch the paint" if you waxed it after only a month thats probably where it went all bad...usually it takes about 90 days for all the solvents to evaporate from the paint (depending upon climate, and since your in ny a colder climate, itll take longer), if you wax it before then, then what happens is you seal in all the solvents trying to escape between the undercoat and the wax which then leads to the bubbling of the paint...often shops will notify you of the 90 day rule in your bill or your work order or just straight tell you before you leave the shop, and if they did tell you then your pretty much sol bc at that point theyre no longer liable for it
