Car shut off going down hill
Yup I was driving to reno, and i put the car in n because I wanted to see if it would save gas since I was going down hill at this point and it worked the first time, then I put it back in d4 drove up a hill then put it in N when I went down. Well the second time the car boged on me and just died!!!!
I put it back in N and tried to start it while it was rolling, it started then shutted off, so I was able to get off the road with out killing anyone or myself, parked it, turned it back on, checked under the hood everything looked ok no problems besides the lines for the tranny were extremly hott like never before.
Anyways the fan works, I didnt see any leaks, and the fluid is fresh. My question is, why the f would it go mad when I put it in netural?
I MADE IT TO RENO even tho it was snowing, and made it home too, to find out a cop got shot and now theres 5 helacopters flying around my apt (not normal)........
AND TO ADD:
Friday Night, I was going up a bridge and had it in the sport shift and some how it reved past 8000RPM (also not a normal thing) for about 1 sec. Could this have anything to do with this?

Oh my gawd. DO NOT put the car in neutral while it is rolling!!!
JUst by trying to save a few pennies on gas (probably cost you more money in gas actually), you definitely didn't help the tranny.
The neutral on auto trannies is not the same as the one on the manual tranny.

Thanks Andy, I'm new to the whole auto tranny thing, but that would expalin why it stopped turning off when I stopped putting it in nutral. I thought that by putting it in nutraul it would let the engine just and tranny just coast along, but yea I coasted all right. lol
Hi everyone,
i own a Renault Mégane mk2 automatic and i am facing exactly the same problem.
Yesterday, reaching at a downhill i stopped my car and turned the gearbox to N in order to hear a strange noise. Immediately my car shutted down. I tried to start it again but nothing happened. So, carefully using the handbrakes and the brake pedal i reached at level ground where the car started immediately. I got it to my mechanic and after a detailed examination he said that there is no fault saved in the ECU. I think that the fuel pump is dieing but i don't know for sure.
