Default Oil problems...

Ok today I was driving my car, came to a stop light, car was idling at like 900-1000 rpms, The oil light started flickering, If I bumped the gas it went off, Which made me think, not a bad sending unit.As soon as it got back down to 1g or so the light would come back on. (Didnt do it at all earlier today even 5 mins in a drive through and letting it idle for a good 5 mins at work this morning. So thinking it might just be a sludge buildup I put a little seafoam in since I had some in my car, And drove 45 mins home, without a noise or light. Anyway I just topped off my oil yesterday (I have a oil pan that leaks (former turbo'd) Anyway, My oil level is FINE oil is clean, change done 2 weeks ago. Another wierd thing 3 weeks ago my car had been shut off for like 4 or 5 mins, I went to check the oil (Like I said, it leaks) And the stick was BONE dry, I checked it 3 times, So I add a quart and check it, and its WAY over, Is oil taking to long to drain down?Do Honda oil pumps fail often? Any other suggestions? Im stumped, Between this and my mysterious coolant leak I cant find, Its bugging me to death, I'd done a good amount of work on this car since august when I got it and I wanna keep it going, I drive about 100 miles a day So I need reliable, Thanks guys!

This is weird. I am posting up because I had the same problem today. Was sitting idling at a drive-thru (I know, tsk, tsk) and the oil press. light started to flicker, then came on solid. I shut it down, restarted it, and the light went off like normal. Then, a minute or so later it was on solid, all the way up to 3K rpm (didn't want to take it any higher than that). I checked the oil level and the dipstick was dry (which is very odd because I had just done an oil/filter change on the car about a month ago and it has not leaked a DROP of oil -- it has been getting stripped and painted so it hasn't moved from my garage other than the trip to the paint shop, and that was on a flatbed).

Anyway, I walked to the auto parts store and bought 2 quarts of oil. Poured in about half of the first quart, checked the level, and it was overfull -- 1 cm or so higher than the top dot. (!) Now it's getting weird. Anyway, knowing that the oil level was OK if not a little high, I drove home. Oil light stayed off most of the drive, but came on again as I was pulling into my driveway. I shut her down again and I'm getting ready to pull the pan and see what the hell is up.

Anyway, this is pissing me off. I am afraid the pump is boned, which doesn't thrill me any. Is there any way to test the oil pump? I don't have a pressure gauge, but I guess I'm going out to get one tomorrow.

Just one thing to say. . the dipstick only registers 1 qt of oil. Another thing, if the light came on because of low oil pressure, then it explains why it would go off under acceleration. Acceleration increases oil pressure, maybe it would bring it up to acceptable levels. Anyways I'm kind of guessing, good luck!

Thats what Im worried about, Im trying to see what kind of oil pressure probs Hondas have, my commute is 45 mins each way, almost all interstate, If I have an oil pressure problem, Im sure 3500-4000 rpms for 45 mins isnt good on low pressure. Mine wasnt as bad as your saying, my light just flickered, and it I touched the gas at all it went off. Im thinking of doing a motor flush tonight. Is there any place to put a mechanical guage on a Honda? I have a few laying around

try to add some sort of motor flush that will break down any possible blockage there is through the passages. add the motor flush then change the oil before you go driving. plus what weight oil are you using

I did a motor flush after work in the parking lot lol, I used some K&W, No noises all the way home, But I tried to see if the light would come on, doing like 15 mph, if you let out the clutch in 5th when the motor bogs down the light still comes on, I used to computer at my second job (Autozone) and looks like replacing oil pump could be a PITA without a lift and air tools, So I hope thats not it. The motor is leaking oil pretty good still, Im thinking about getting another z6 I found and rebuilding it top to bottom so I know what I got and swapping it one weekend, Or even better find a good LS swap or something
