Default Manual to Auto conversion??

Yes, I said it correctly. I currently have a manual transmission and want to convert it to auto. Why you ask, well, the car is for my buddy who has a prosthetic leg and can't drive a manual, but this is a car he has been wanting for a long time. I'm going to do the labor for him, I just need a parts list. It's REALLY hard to find a decent priced auto EG hatch around here, so that's why I wanna do this for him. I've searched, but all the write-ups go the other way. Doesn't look to hard, just need to source that parts and do some work........

Any help would be great, and please, realize why I'm doing this and keep the smart-a$$ comments to yourselves..........

Thanks...........

I want to warn you this probably will be a lot more work than first anticipated. I have done an auto to manual and the process was a pain going that way.

Anyways, I understand that you are trying to help out a buddy and that is pretty commendable if you ask me. If this is for a 5th gen civic you will need to get a automatic upper transmission mount, this will have to be spot welded on after you remove the manual mount. You will need an automatic dash and engine harness (unless you can figure a way to wire everything in yourself). You will need the transmission and ECU, obviously. That is all that I can think of right now. If anyone else knows of more, if there is any, please chime in.

Good luck, man.

I don't think you comprehend just how much work is involved in doing this.

It is an order of magnitude more difficult to convert a manual Civic to automatic than it is to convert an automatic to a manual.

It's going to be more cost/time-effective to find an automatic DX hatchback. If you can't find one, you're not looking hard enough.

The car was donated. That's why I'm not going to buy one.

I already have a interior body harness from a junked EX so that I can do power window/doorlocks for him and it was from an auto. i also have an auto gauge cluster. I just mainly wanted to make sure the axles and everything that was the same. The tranny mount is a good thing to know.

I would find one to buy, but I'm on a donation only budget so I'm just going to find someone local that wants to do an auto to manual swap and trade them ECU's and everything thye need to do their swap, plus a minimal labor charge to do the work so I can see how things come apart and go back.

I appreciate the help..........
