H22 into a 92 si
I don't mess with preludes much but a friend of mine has came to me for advice so here I am at your mercy
. He has bought a 92 si that the crank pulley bolt sheared the end of the crank off. He's wanting to swap in a jdm h22. Is this just plug-and-play? Is the main difference between the two (h22-23) just in the head. I know we'll have to use the vtec ecu but not sure what all will have to be wired. Which tranny is best to used? Any advice is appreciated.

Have you checked the Prelude FAQs?: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2168311
Yes I have read through the faq's. I didn't find much info for my particular situation. Why can't I swap out just the longblock keeping the original h23 intake manifold and accesories?
Yeah... all I really saw was different replacement parts like gaskets and stuff. I don't see why thats relevant to swaping the new engine in. I'm also not trying to be a dick and I appreciate the response.
Well if you look closely at it. Its a parts list for going H22 from H23. You need to wire in the vtec wires. Other than that its basic swap.
The M2B4 tranny is ideal, but you will also need new axels for that tranny.
The H23 tranny will bolt up, but the m2b4 tranny is faster at accelerating

Yes and no. Its not that hard to take a JDM motor and make it USDM. You can use the fuel rail off the current motor, and bam its USDM compatably.
The h22a has a better rep than the H22a1(usdm)

I did the JDM switch into my 94si; it went in with little problems. That said, make sure you pay attention to the wiring (you'll need a new harness). I thought mine was all correct only to find out my cruise control didn't work anymore. That's my only advice; hope that helps.
you can use the h23 harness, the only thing you need to do is wire the vtec solenoid and vtec oil press switch. Some non-vtec preludes come pre-wired for vtec, the wires go into the engine bay, all you need to is extend the wires

check to make sure all the vacuum lines are all still connected and didn't get bumped during the swap.. I didn't change anything with the cruise system, and it still works after the swap

I thought we did....it's such a common swap and people make threads about it all the time.

the 92 was not prewired for vtec so you will have to run the 2 wires. also if you get a jdm h22a. it would be easiest to simply use the distributor from the h23. plugs right and bolts right up. and with the fuel rail like said you can use the h23 fuel rail just put the h22 injectors in. everything else is pretty standard.
