Default automatic trans people... ideas?

car is a 1991 integra with 117k

i bought the car about 3k miles ago the tranny never felt perfect(infact sort of sluggish) but it always shifted and didn't slip that i noticed. i decided a couple days ago to get it flushed, the flush didn't really seem to have any affect though. My gf drives the car on a daily basis and yesterday she called and said it was in drive but it wasn't moving. I first checked the fluid level which was fine. i started the car and put it in drive, the car started moving and driving. i gave her my car and started driving the integra home. i got a few miles and the car suddenly downshifted, then just revved and lossed power to the wheels. i pulled over and the car would just rev and would not move. i turned the car off , waited maybe 30 seconds and started it again, shifted to drive and it moved... so i started driving it again. i got another couple of miles down the road and it repeated the same thing it did b4. i turned it off and back on and it was drivable all over again. this happened all they way back about a 15 minute trip.

anyone ever experience this? know the cause? if the trans if fugged is there an additive that will prolong its death?

thanks

Any CELs with the car? Does the speedometer indicate speed when the car is revving in gear?

No cels. the speedo works when the car is moving.. i don't THINK it was doing anything when not moving in gear. have to go check that.

what would that mean?

It can happen if an axle pops out of the transmission. The differential rotates but the wheels do not. The VSS works off of the differential.
