Bandimere speedway track refurb. w/ 330' track cooling
In the off-season, the brass at Bandimere speedway is resurfacing the entire 1320 in concrete to be only the 2nd track on the NHRA powerade circuit (Texas Motorplex was 1st) to have an entirely concrete track. In addition to that, the first quarter of the track is having liquid cooling lines installed underneath the pad to quell high track temperatures during the summer. It's the only known system that exists to date. Its supposed to be ready for opening day in April. Should be interesting to feel the surface in July. I'm guessing that the track won't turn into a liquid bed of VHT that will take your shoe off when you're walking in the staging area. Anyway, thought I'd share. Hope to see all you out-of-towners at NOPI in June.

bingo, why are we not pumping steam or some hot water thru these lines as well for cold days and slick tracks.
honestly why couldnt they run the entire length of the track? you see cars get squirelly on the big end, so im wondering why something like this hasnt been done before?

haha, you're right. It's always snowing here! Sheeeit. Might as well be, we only get 6 mos. a year to race, and all of them are weather-allowing. Everyday at 4:00p during summer the violent thunderstorms start and that's right when Test and Tune starts on Wednesdays.

I think that's why they only did 1/3 of the track. I'm sure it's pretty expensive. The track prep here in Denver is second to none for events, and we never really have an issue with the big end. Plus, I can't imagine how many miles of tubing that would require. I'm excited to feel the difference and to test it with an IR thermometer. I wonder if right where the lines stop is going to be where you lose traction all of a sudden and it could actually be a safety issue? Who knows.
I doubt they'll run hot through it ever. I think they like their 6 mos. off, and I can't imagine being there when its cold. Not worth it.

I didn't think it was about that though. The first 300' was already concrete at Bandimere, and then the big end is the section they just added. I was under the impression that it was better for durability as far as... it won't grove out as quick as asphalt. But...?

I think ive heard something about the asphalt getting hot secreteing the oils that it is composed of, so it gets slick. It makes sense since asphalt is petrol based but i dont know what the actually scientific answer is.

Yeaaaah, I usually don't even mess around with the first test/tune anyway. Too many cars break and it seems to be that everybody from the drivers to the track, to the track officials are a little green from the 6 mos. off. Plus I can think of a few better things to do than to sit in the staging lanes for most of the night. But it will be nice to get the place reopened. I'll be running my first decently quick (hopefully) car in six years this year.

Yeat it is bussy. It is not that I want to race at bandamire opening day, I've just been working on my car for an hour every night after work fabing one off pieces for 8 months. Im sick of it being in my garadge, it's making me mad.

Looks good. Should hook pretty hard. Although they could just do what IHRA did two years ago at one event or one Alabama (?) track does and just spray it down with water from a water truck. But I guess with the under pavement piping you can keep it a constant temperature.

cant do steam as that piping is only rated to ~ 140* but its great for hot water

The short answer is yes concrete WILL/IS a better hooking surface then asphalt. The reason most all tracks only do the 330 is the pure cost of concrete vs asphalt. There first 330 is the most important if it didn't make any difference at all the all track would be 100% asphalt. Ask some of the older V8 guys who have been around a while. Or even some... dare I say street racers (with faster cars) , Also track owners what they think
