D16Z6 economy/cheap rebuild
Hi guys, new to the Honda world.
I am trying to resurect a '92 Civic EX for use to save gas. The original D16Z6 was run out of oil and sent #2 through the block. I purchased a "good, ran till we removed" D16A6 block and am building it now for the Z6's head. My question is about the piston tolerances. YES I AM GOING BASIC AND CHEAP! After honing the newer block the new rings measured at the maximum running tolerance (this is beyond the ideals) with no ring sizing needed. I did not mic the bores but had hoped just a hone would do. After assembly will this motor have any life and how much could it smoke? If this was a customer or a car I would keep for many years I would bore it out and oversize. Again, I bought the car for $300 and am trying to go cheap. How forgiving is a Honda?
Thank you for your opinion, Angus

Like any motor, whether foreign or domestic, if not built right it will smoke or burn oil, or worse seize up. Running the maximum piston to wall clearances may also affect your power output if you have excessive blow by. Do it right the first time and not worry
Thanks, I know what I should do, just trying to save money to save money. Is any of the ebay sellers any good for pistons? I have seen a set ranging from $70 to $600. I do not need hotrod pistons or rings just good decent .020 over stockers.
Thanks for the info.
