no speedo since trans swap??????
okay i have a 96 civic ex...sohc vtec....d16y8 with stock trans....i swaped the trans with a 92-95 dx trans and my speedo is not working now....i am selling my car tomorrow so i need to fix it tonight...any help would be great...thanks guys
also are the vss's(vehicle speed sensors) the same on both trannys or are they different...i have both vss's but i tried both and neither worked...should i clean the contacts on the harness's? thanks again guys

the speedo ring gear is the gear that turns the VSS. if you pull out your VSS, you'll see that it's gear driven similar to the distributer setup on an old V8. if you're missing the ring gear, there's nothing to turn the VSS and therefore no speedo.
in all honestly, i doubt that would be the problem -- unless somebody pulled the gearbox apart and reassembled it incorrectly. it's more likely a bad VSS or a wiring issue.

well all i ddid was unplugh it. but when i pull the codes i got vss. no i replaced the vss with a known working one from my old tranny and still haveing same prob
