broken CV joints/boots?
i dont know much about this to be honest...i can do engine or what have you...but new to this. anyway, i have this clicking/knocking from my passenger side front wheel area. it is most prevalent when im just stop and go...as soon as i let of the gas this clicking starts...sounds like absolute ****. anyone know what this is?
oh yea...i did a tire rotation about 200 mi ago, and it started after that. but ive taken off and resecured all the tires about 3 times to no avail after this, so i dont know.
thanks!

have U taken the wheels off and inspected the area? clicking usually occurs when turning though.
BTW, replacing the axle shafts is way easier than u may think. just have a good manual and you'll be ok

see i dont know...i suppose it clicks a bit when i turn as well. ive taken the wheel off a bunch of times and screwed around in there and didnt see anything.
have you took it to a shop so they can check it out, so you can find out what exactly it is, then you can see how much it is to fix it, and you can call around for the repairs or you can do it yourself.

Well just go and ask them to check it out and to see whats doing it, do ask them to fix it, just to check because they won't charge you to check, so when you know what it is, most likely you can fix it your self or just call around for the best price.

Usually broken CV joints will only knock when you Accelerate while turning. After the boot has been busted for 4 hours the joint will start to knock.

speaking of knocks and thuds.. my friend just got a remanufactured CV joint/boot because her old one tore and all the grease came out.. after they (shop) put in the remanufactured axle joint/boot the boot is fine, but over bumps and stuff it thumps/knocks.. do you guys know whats wrong w/ her car? is the remanufactured joint bad? or is something else damaged/broken?
my car has torn cv boots and when I let off the gas in a lower gear it'll start clicking.. but it's most prevelant when turning and accelerating (as long as the differential is turning the axles).

There was a clicking behind my front right wheel last month and I brought it into the dealer. Thought it was the CV joint and it turned out to be a rusting loose axle shaft. They told me they pulled out the axle, sanded off the rust, polished and relubed it and tightened it back up. Hasn't clicked since. They told me that the shaft was actually lose and they've never seen a shaft loosen itself like that before.
Hope that helps.
my CV boot has been leaking grease for like 8 months now.....no knocking or clicking from my car and its been long over 4 hours.
inspect all ball joints, check for play in the tie rod and check for grease incase your cv boot has a hole in it. My cv boot had a hole in it and i ended up destroying my wheel bearing.
Just keep coating them with high temp grease to prolong it.
thats what i do
...plus i pack a little grease in there whenever i have my wheels off.

Here's an idea to save you some money.. If you replace anything that connects to the axle, replace the whole axle, not just what's broken. And if you decide to replace the axle, the 3rd gen Teg's front passanger axle is the same as the 2nd gen Teg's front passanger axle. I know this is true because the best mechanic I know told me so. It's his job to know..

dude, look for a big nail in your tire. I ran over a bolt one time and could hear it when slowing to a stop or starting off, actually could feel it too because it was big, but didn't leak air.
