Default garage booth setup...feedback if you will

i'm gonna be pickin up bits and pieces for a garage setup. i'm thinkin devilbiss guns (hplv of course) 1.7-1.8mm tips for primer and and 1.3-1.4 tips for base and clear. compressor will be the 33gal vertical craftsman 1.6hp 150max psi

i do panel painting, so i of course take everything that is removable off and paint it by itself like most do. there will be filters and liners and a wet floor all that bs.

just wondering if there will be any probs with the 33gal (i doubt it though i see a lot of you with them around here) but if heavily favored i will spring for a 60gal.

feedback and comments, tips and guidance, and flames are all welcome. kthnxbye

i painted mine with a 60, i wouldnt do it on anything small. you pay more now but you save on down time and labor.

with good/proper tool it's only hurts when you pay for it, but with crap tool you are in pain every time you use it

you might get aways with a 33 with paint but not with a DA sander

1.7 is kinda too big for primer btw

^ I disagree since i was able to paint my whole car w/ a 30 gal. But then again i have the Iwata which requires less are. I recommend you get the Iwata cuz less air consumption means less overspray especially for a DIY'er. check out my paint thread if u want ideas

i got away with a 25gal 6hp 135psi devilbiss and a low flow husky gun

if you are going to use nice guns get a compressor that can keep up

plus u will have a kick *** compressor from now on that will own die grinders and air sanders

I have the 33 gal. compressor you're talking about. It will run out of steam if you don't give it a chance to keep up. I would suggest the Devilbiss GFG-670 as it is made to consume less cfms than your average HVLP.

ding ding ding

of course there will be someone somewhere in america painted their car with a 1 gallon compressor and got away with it but that is not the point of this tread. if you are in the position of buying a compressor, just consider the pros and cons.

MOST people will agree 60-80 is a good size for diyer for complete car paint.

sorry my sata sucks in air like a hog but that's what i use.

DA will take air out of the system like it's beer, you know you will be using one sometime down the line, might as well pay a tad more for it.

make sure you have 240 volts source with a good amp breaker, pair them up some good gague wries and you are good a too small compressor will slow you down, more water in the line, more noise(could be a bit(h for residental area)
