Default How do i know i have a JDM engine?

When i bought my prelude the guy said it was a jdm swap cause his old motor blew and it has the Red valve cover but you can just buy those. i think it still has the stock ECU cause it wont go to 8 grand it hits the limiter at about 7450

sounds jdm to me. you dont have to swap the ecu just cause of the jdm engine probally just got the engine not a full swap.

im 99% sure though any usdm engines have a number after the a. Ex. H22a1(obdI) H22a4 (obdII)

The H22A doesn't have an 8K Redline. And there's probably no point taking it out that far as it's probably not making power that far up on a stock block.

You'd have to chip the ECU or get a chipped ECU.

But again, there's probably no point..

And how do you know the engine can handle it?

the 7700 rev limit is PLENTY of rpm's for stock internals

like said above the 7700 is plenty for stock internals. your not gonna be making power past that so would be pointless even risking going over it. Also just cause you see something on you tube doesnt mean it should be done. some people are stupid enough to risk their engine and put an egay chip in and rev the **** out of their cars but that doesnt mean it should be done.

Dosent the JDM h22a stop making power at 7200 rpm. No point in taking it any farther than that.

Wat? I would also ask how you know the motor can handle it? Youtube should not be used a reliable source of technical information FYI.

Exactly. You guys need to stop pulling false info out of your ***'s lol. after 7200rpm you are actually loosing power and just stressing your engine out. I can't even begin to tell you how many stock h22 graphs i have seen. All of them loose power after 7200-7300rpm.

recipe for disaster? I put 90k miles on my H22a and in spirited driving I always shift right before the limiter never had a problem.. Hell if you shift at 7200 you wont even land above the change-over. If Honda didnt think the H22 could not rev that high they would of put the limiter at 7300.. Im not scard, been doing this before you even knew about the H22......

LOADS of in here. WOAH! Some people need to learn to shift. I find it absolutely ridiculous that some complain about falling out of the power band. I guess its alright to do as other idiots do just 'cuz they took video of themselves doing idiot things and put it on you tube. That's hardly any sort of proper intellectual source. If we could all rev to 8k , then you are saying a whole lot of people so far (including pro racers) have spent WAY too much money on lighter and stronger internals for nothing. It's a fact that that's not the case. Do it right and don't try to pull a page out of the ricer's R&D manual.

If you're using the stock tach, you're probably shifting around 7500 anyways.

No....

You guys need to learn a few things..

Red Line is what is show on your RPM Gauge. And it's also what the engine was built to go to/withstand on a reliable basis. Yea, sure, you could take it to 8k, 9k, 10k, whatever, but how long will that engine be able to take that kind of abuse?

Rev Limiter is where the ECU stops the engine from revving higher. So that's what you're hitting at 8,200 RPM's.

Completely different things..

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Finest &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If you're using the stock tach, you're probably shifting around 7500 anyways.</TD></TR></TABLE>

lol, And yes, this is also true. The stock Tach isn't the most accurate thing. Specially higher up in the range.

So you're seeing false info on YouTube, false info from your Tach, and getting false info from your Butt Dyno thinking that you're making more power up to 8K.

my stock h22a made power to 7600. I gained roughly .4 ET by revving to 8500 on the tach (approx 8200 real).

gearing + peak torque + rpm drop

you wont know where to shift unless you DYNO YOUR engine.

Agreed. That's mostly my point. Some people have the ***** to rev it out that high and tempt fate. The F22C revs really high and has the same bore x stroke as the H22. It does however have longer rods. I'd never go that high on a stock H though. I just don't want the idea to get around to people to slap on some chipped ecu and expect that it's even worth it to take it up that high.
