reverse problems
hey everybody, im fairly new to crx's but not hondas. i bought an 1989 ls/vtec crx with a bad knock and rebuilt it. well, i just did the first start up yesterday. idle's PERFECT. revs up ok...
heres the problem: the car is idling perfect in neutral, i push the clutch in... still fine. i put it in reverse while still holding in the clutch and it bogs down and stalls. before i even hit the gas or let go of the clutch. could this be a tranny problem? vacuum? electrical problem? timing? im clueless as to what it is.
also, not sure if this is related... but when i did manage to get the car out of the driveway and down the road, when i hit the gas in any gear it sounds like its breaking up real bad and bogging. it even back fires a few times.
well any help would be appreciated

Maybe electrical, I was advised that it could be a sign of a failing alternator when I experienced this problem. My solution was to ignore it, and it promptly went away.

Worse advice ever lol, those reverse lights must really strain the alternator.

Is your clutch adjusted up properly? When you have it in any gear and you start to let the clutch out where does it start to engage?
As for the stuttering poping problem, is your check engine light on? Is it burnt out? Check the ecu for codes, I bet something isn't wired up right.

Clutch engages when you press it down? Or when you start to let it out? Adjust up your clutch so it starts to engage about 2 1/2 - 3 inch's off the floor. The adjustment is on the clutch cable on the tranny, screw it in about 4-5 turns.
To check codes, pull up the pass. side carpet from under the dash, turn on the key and look into the little window for a blinking led. Count the flashs and search or post the numbers.
