Hi,

The gash (chuckle) is not very deep, and is mostly cracked around the area of impact. (Thats what she said) Sorry I had too.

Its all in the title, opinions please.

Even if I could smooth out the area that would be great. I could always slap a sticker on that spot.

Thanx!

I've repaired quite a few carbon hoods that look worse than this, but once it cracks, it's not repairable by a cosmetic tech anymore. You may want to talk to a bodyshop to see if they can sand it down and re-clear it.

Ok. I wasn't sure if body shops work on Carbon fiber, But that's cool if they do.
I will research it. I'm glad it looks repairable.

Thanx.

Well, I can't promise you anything. I hope you find someone that can do it. Most importantly, I hope you find someone who can repair it correctly so you'll never see the repair. It's a coin toss, that's for sure. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Naah. At the very worst they'll tell you that they can repair it with body filler but you'll have to paint it afterwards. A painted c/f hood (to me) is better than no c/f hood at all. You bought it because it was lightweight, right?

I think it would be cheaper to buy a new one, you mentioned its a 300 dollar hood. Not to be rude or anything, but what you really need is something like fiber images or VIS. Fiber images really is quality I used to own one before and they really last a long time.

Yes Lightweight plus needing a new hood at the time. I agree a painted C/F Hood would still be very good for staying light.

So no one thinks I could put some C/F resin in the hole and sand it down, an clear it? Even if it still shows the blem that's ok. I just want to get it smooth and sturdy enough were I could at least put a sticker there.

Personally I'd be concerned about the cracks that are underneath the surface. Whatever hit your hood was hard enough to create air pockets underneath those cracks around the damaged area. I'd be worried about those cracks spreading and the damage becoming worse if it were simply 'patched' with c/f resin and left alone. Of course that would take a long time to happen and you would have long gotten your money's worth out of that hood and would be more willing to replace it when or if that ever became a problem.

It's up to you. You could try the resin and if it doesn't work, you're in the same situation you're in now. Or you could take it to a shop and they may not even be able to do anything for you. If you wanted to keep the bare c/f look, try to patch it. It may not look that bad when you're done. Good luck.

Yeah What have I got to loose. I will try it if I can't find a professional. It only seems to be cracked in the wound area.

Even if I Do it myself???? Why is gel coat over $300?

I would just like to get it smoothed out so I can slam a 10 horse power sticker over it. As long as it is stable I'm happy.
