Default Problem with Rims?

I have a 95 civic ex that i just bought. The car arrived and was not like it should have been. When i took it to a mechanic he said many things were wrong including that 18'' rims were too big for the car. Is this true or is he just trying to sqeeze us for money.
thanx... nathanjohnson2009

they can be. if there too wide, tires are to big, wrong offset, any of those can cause problems.

18 inch wheels will slow the acceleration and braking down alot. i say go with a 15 or 16 inch wheel. **** go with blades, or meshs. they both look good on civics.

It's a Civic not a Caddy.
As for the mechanic, I don't think he can squeeze you for money trying to downsize your wheels.

Sweet Jesus 18's? WTF was the last owner on when he thought that would look good on a civic.

Thanx... The rims are already on tha car and they don't seem to be too wide... they appear to fit at least on tha rear... the tire profile is really low and i think the struts might be blown because u can't even get your fist under the side skirt... will try to post some pics both tha ones when we bought it and the ones we took when we got tha car.

i am rockin a set of 18's right now myself.. my gas mileage is ****, my cars not as quick accelerting, and i have issues of them rubbing when i have more then 2 people in there. and let me tell you, as soon as i can get a new set of tires for my stock rims, the 18's are getting sold. as for looks, yeah it looks ok, but sucks for performance. so speaking from experience, the sooner they come off, the better.

come on...no state inspectors in here?.
the reason he is saying your 18's are too big is because in order for it to pass inspection the wheels can't be 2 sizes bigger than factory. I.E- If it comes factory with 15's, 17 inch wheels would be acceptable. Unless its already been inspected, in which case, screw it.

Maybe where you live, but here in washington wheel size is not part of any inspection. All we have is emissions and they are still no where near as strict as California.

Bump for 16's. I had 17's on my old civic and i thought it looked like 22's! I can't imagine why someone would even think about putting 18's on a civic. What sidewall tire was on there? like a 25 or something. Go with a 16x8 and a 205-45-16 tire! your ride quality will improve dramatically from a damn log wagon to actually comfortable! Just my two cents though.
