For those with cam gears installed.
Did you notice any new noises?
When I reach vtec, it's noticably louder, almost sounds like I need a valve adjustment. (high pitch rattle/whine)
I wonder if I put the upper timing belt cover back on, the noise might go away?
ANYONE?

The belt cover will certainly muffle some of the camshafts / timing belt sound. But if you think you need a valve adjustment it never hurts to do it either. Make sure everything is aligned properly and tensioned properly also. Are both camgears set at 0-0 ? You might need tuning to reset everything properly.
Actually, I didn't have all the tools needed to complete the job.
So, I ended up putting everything back the way it was, minus the upper timing belt cover.

Then, if everything is aligned porperly, it is very possible that the upper belt cover absorbed the high frequency that you are now earing. I do ear more noise coming from the timing belt and the end of the camshats but I am using Toda B so they noisier by nature.
I have been getting a squeeking (sp?) noise from my cam gears for a while now, and I found this weekend what it was.
I took pics but have not been able to post them. In short, my problem was that there is a plastic cover, I think that goes behind the Cam gears, or at leas there is a plastic piece that goes over the rounds sections of the block, well that round cover piece seems to be bending close to the cam gears and one of the screws from the exhaust camgear is rubbing against it.
For the longest time I was worried if the Camgears were jacked or I needed to change the timing belt but low and behold it was something simple.
I think I got lucky when I took the Valve cover off that the screw was in teh right spot, touching the plastic for me to notice, otherwise it may have been harder to troubleshoot.
I will open a post with the pics when I get home tonight. I hope this helps in someway.

Well, I just got back from Carboy, a reputable shop here in Houston, they say it's nothing, although they corrected me, "it's a buzzing, not a rattle".
ok, whatever... somone here must be running without the upper timing belt cover???

Almost everybody here who have adjustable camgears either cut the valve cover and/or the upper belt cover to have easy access.
If it is giving you such grey hear, why don't you put the cover back on until you install the camgears, that way you will be sure.
