Sequential transmission resources in America?
Other than skipping over the big pond... does any one have some good resources for getting a sequential tranverse tranny and parts here in America? Budget is $7-8k. Along the lines of xtrac/sadev/hewland for a K20.

We'll you're already half way there. Talk to Xtrac or Hewland. You have a K20, so the motor spins the right way. Pretty much a given you'll need to fabricate an adapter plate.

yeah I've found used ones overseas with the k20 bell housing... but shipping puts me quite over budget.. I know there are BTCC guys running them too w/ k20s. Hard to get in contact with them also.
Shipping shouldnt be that bad?
I have shipped things heavier than gearboxes to the U.K and Euroland for $200ish amd that was 2-3 day air.
OR! You can pull a Lancia and fly there, stuff it into a special suitcase, pay the $80 overweight fee and ship it back with you on commercial airline.

I don't think 7/8 k is going to cover it... Last time I looked they were in the 12-15k range and the dollar has come way down in value
Link to the k20 housing over seas?
Here is a holinger out of australia for a gtr to give you price comparisions... About 16-17k

The K20 xtrac.... heres one in new condition, over my budget but they do exist.
I can't reasily find the others I've found at less, but some VW guys I've know of have found sadev and xtrac used units for $7000-7500 CAD/US
http://www.racecarsdirect.com/...15148
For me to ship UPS to UK at a deep deep discount rate is $150 for a manifold/dp combo.. I can't imagine what a tranny would be even if it was at a reasonable rate from another company, air freight from UPS so far is $450. Not that it will deter me from still searching, but I think it gives a good ball park. The most decent rate I've paid for centerlock rims from UK is $380 per four

It's a little too early for me to say anything or get people's hopes up, but When I was overseas last November I had some discussions with the manufacturer of our GEAR-X line of Final Drives and Close ratio gears on this very subject.
Producing a Sequential Trans for the K series is not a huge undertaking...
The problem is, here in the US we are very limited in the classes or series where the rules allow you to use such an item.
So it's the old story... If we put up the development costs and come up with viable unit with assorted ratios that would Retail for say $10-15k How long would it take to recover the development costs, and many would we actually sell in a year?
There may be a potential overseas market, but I doubt it?
....Still thinking about it though
....
We are currently testing our prototype Straight Cut Close Ratio Gear Set and
we will be releasing our K-Series (Helical cut) Close Ratio Gear Set very soon.

Thanks!... yeah I know I'll have to make my own mounts. Increased engine tilt is needed to get the centerline of the ring gear/axle to drop to a tolerable joint angle on trans like these.

Good luck contacting them....
"Big Al" has been trying to contact them for weeks re: a size-able purchase.
Even if they show interest, and you can get someone to speak to you... it will be a toss up whether you are going to pay for Gold or Platinum!
I spoke to someone there a year or more ago about buying some old K-Motors ..... Pfffttt.... I recieved a very arrogant attitude, and highly inflated idea of what their stuff was worth!
I hope things have changed since then...

hmm I'll keep that in mind....
However, since doing a couple turbo Lotus cars, I've been toying with the idea of using this piece too (below)... I'm investigating if Ikeya makes a Lotus k20 compatible version... if so I could easily switch it over to a Honda chassis.
It allows for an h-pattern to be converted into a up-down pattern while retaining a stock trans. Its advertised only for c60-c64 Toyota trans in the Lotus.

Don't take too much notice of my bitter taste, I have a great respect for the RTR team in general, I think I just happened to strike an ******* on that occasion.
Now thats an interesting piece... I have seen similar units. I would be interested in finding out more on this...
I believe this would be legal for most circuit racing applications here? I don't believe there are any restrictions on the method of shifting... I may be wrong? I wonder if this would actually be faster, or more efficient than the regular H pattern?

Anything that comes to of it I'll pass it along... it is a nice piece.
My ideas are expanding as this thread moves on.
The only other option I can explore (which I also got into while doing work on Lotus cars), is a sequential gear conversion kit which Quaife supplies for the Toyota c64 trans case...but only holds 300wtq in constant race conditions apparently. Last time I called it was $7200 roughly. I should ask again if there is development branching off towards Honda motorsport.

As well as Ikeya Formula these guys offer something similar:
http://www.sqsracing.com/index.php
While they only list a Prelude application at present, I'm sure they could make a K-series application easily enough.

Interesting... I haven't read that whole thing but that it's not a true sequential but it looks like it mimics sequential by changing the h pattern to a up/back pattern and using an electrical interface to control the transmission grear changes.
maybe you could try

they make straight cut dog boxes for B-series and sequentials for other cars..

And both of those 'conversions' are absolute *****. You get all of the inconvenience of a sequential box, no gear display, and no benefit. What a waste!

I have spoken to both SQSRacing and Drenth regarding US Distribution, Pricing, parts etc...
A little vague at this stage?
I think very costly, for the Dog boxes and a very limited market.
As for the Shifters....

I think I'm inclined to agree... I have driven race-cars with full sequntial transmissions. However, I don't think a "sequential" up and down "Shifter" conversion is going to be anything like the same thing...
More of a novelty than practical for any type of racing...
I'll post any further information I come up with.

for the h22 guys they don't really like the shifting. Maybe this might make it alittle bit better if it works really well...?
I don't see what the problem with an H pattern shifter is, but i haven't ever driven a cable transmission on the track before and that seems like what this conversion thing is for.
