my car is trippen with ac
my problem is when i turn on the a/c my rpms hop so after i tested to see that alternator was pushing power to the battery with a volt meter(which checked out fine)I went to inspect the belt and noticed that it wasnt there. there should be three belts right?(95 dx) so if i get an ac belt put on i wonder would that stop the hopping.
alternator one belt. ps belt and ac belt. so 3 belts. do u have ps ? and idel raises a bit when u turn on the ac. that means your ac system works and it is normal
If there is no belt going to your compressor then you should have no a/c. Im pretty sure you should have the power steering belt, alt. belt, and compressor belt. Is the a/c actually cooling?
F&CK i didnt even check. my rpms are 800 with ac not on and then 1200 to 1800 with ac on hopping up and down 12 to 18,12 to 18... i remember that it was the belt in the center. which would that be. i didnt take a long look just glanced.
well, on my crx it was the belt to the right of the engine in the front(as if you are standng in front of the car). It was the farthest one forward. Maybe someone has a picture of the compressor in the bay. Its right under the p/s reservoir.
Ok, i finally found one. I cant circle it with paint cause im on a work computer but the compressor is the one on the left closest to the bottom. In order from left to right.....a/c compressor(bottom left), p/s pump(above and to the right of a/c), alternator(back of engine). Hope this helps

well, by process of elimination.... id say, you have power steering, and your alternator is alternating, so you are missing the belt for the compressor. It is the one in the middle. The first belt(closest to motor) is alt., middle belt is a/c compressor, next belt is p/s.
so would this be the reason for my rpms to go up and down repeatedly with a/c on? or is it IACV and FITV type thing? also never messed with a belt would. what does it take/how to put one on if you know,if not i really appreciate the help! thanks. I like how ppl like you will go out of there way to help others.
Its no problem man. People help me all the time with my car. Just returning the favor
The rpms shouldnt change just because you turned the a/c on if it isnt hooked up. This is probably an IACV or FITV thing.
Also, to put a belt on the compressor, you need to loosen the tensioner above the compressor and slide the belt over the 3 pulleys. then you just pull it tight again with the tensioner. Its easy. Took me about 10 minutes to change one on my CRX.

Well if your missing the belt, The reason the idle is jumping is because the IACV adjusts idle rpm when you turn a/c on etc, So it tries to adjust the idle and theres no load on it, Get a belt and clean the IACV
