OBD1 and OBD2, when is it important?
I am a car noobie and I don't really understand all of OBD1 and OBD2 importance.
What is different on them? Why is OBD2 harder to mod. When would OBD1 and OBD2 be important (like when doing engine swaps? like when setting up forced induction? programing ECU?)
Just a little basic knowledge on this subject is much appreciated.

obd1 and obd0 used a connector that was diff from car to car...more importantly the obd2 system 96 and newer not only detected misfires and other things but it also makes sure ur car is emission legal, or close, if there is anything wrong emission wise, or anything else the cel comes on so....obd2-emissions. other obds, no emissions....correct me if i am wrong so unless ur an enviro-freak, or the govt, obd2 just gets in the way, ex. if u wanted to install a cat delete on a obd0 or 1 car, the cel shouldnt come on because it for emissions only, obd2 a CEL would come on because of the o2 sensor after the cat.
obd1 and obd2 are mainly the differences between harness, sensor connectors and ecu. there is obd2 to obd1 ecu harness conversion.so u can run obd2 engine setup into obd1 chassis or the other way around
