Transmission Rebuild
Hey
I am planning to rebuild my HF transmission soon and was looking at replacing the syncro's too.
I plan to replace all the bearings/ seals and then the syncro's, but buying new synco's from honda is mad expensive, so I searched around and found this
http://importdrivetrain.com/st...t=431
Has anyone used one of the these synco kits before?
are they any good?
Also I hear that some people just scuff the old syncro's up with some sand paper and they don't seem to have any problems with them after that........
Idea's and opinions (hope I don't regret saying that) welcome
last but not least are there any other rebuild type kits out there for the d-series transmissions.

about the scuffing....you scuff the gear cones to remove glazing. when shifting gears the ring will have a better grip on the cone and eliminate grinding.
before ordering any parts i suggest blueprinting your tranny to check for out of spec parts.
i just rebuilt my b16 tranny and drove it for the first time this evening.
a couple tips...you do not have to order bearings from honda. call your local bearing supplier and give them part numbers found on your larger bearings. there's no info on needle bearings so you'll have to get the dimensions from a honda parts website.
when the helms manual says you need a press or a special attachment it's not true. A rubber mallet and some pvc fittings can be used as a press. just pay attention to what you're doing so you don't ruin your new bearings or synchro springs.
good luck on the rebuild.

Thanks for the reply and the info.
Ill try to blue print the trans if I have enough time to when I pull it from my rex.
Are there any other parts in the transmission that tend to wear?

replace all your seals as well. dont want any leaks after you get the tranny back in!
and about scuffing...
the syncros have "threads" on the inside of them that help your transmission match RPMs, if those threads are worn down you must replace the syncro.
its easy just go slow, lable everything and put it back togehter EXACTLY how it came apart. before you reinstall, go through all the gears 1 by 1, and spin the input shaft 360deg to make sure there is no binding.
(i had to take mine apart a few times because the key holes on my shifter forks wernt aligned properly. watch for that)
