Default Trying to isolate clunking sound, please help.

update: the cross member radius arm bushings did the trick.. the old ones were way worn.
I'm trying to isolate clunking sound, it seems like its on the driverside. Like its hitting the lower firewall.

When I do a shake down of the front end everything is tight.
so far I've replaced
1990 crx si
- rack end bushing and adjusted up my gearbox
- Driverside outer tie rod
- replaced old shocks with GC /koni setup

It only makes this sound when I accelerate from a stop onto an uneven surface. ( like leaving my apt onto the main road dips down then back up) I also feel it in the steering wheel.
Which makes me believe that its somewhere in the steering column to the gearbox. Is there something in there that would make that noise?

I just dont want to waste money on the wrong parts...

thanks

oh and pics because people like pics

rear motor mount bolts or broken rear cross member is what i usually find. or the trailing arm bushings in the front lower crossmember

to check your ball joints properly on our style suspension you have to jack up on the lower control arm near the ball joint and pull the bottom of the tire in and outwards. make sure you have a jack stand there in case you pull too hard. Have a buddy shake while you look for play.

I want you to check your sway bar body bushings and see if there is any play in those. That will cause a clunk when you hit bumps. You may need a pry bar in there to move the bar around to see if there is play.

I know you said you had Hasport mounts but make sure the bolts are all tight as well.

strut rod bushings when they were to a certain point have been responsible for a clunk. and even new at the dealer they are still pretty easy on the pocket.

Alright I got it up on the alignment rack today and we noticed that there was play in the radius/strut rod in the crossmember due to the bushings being worn, while we were shaking down the front end.

I ordered some ES bushings, oem would have been more and would have taken longer to get .

I'll keep it updated

I'm not trying to talk you out of ES bushings, but do a search on them.

I was going to put some on my car, but found out they require maintanance, and if not maintained wear out very quicky compared to rubber.

ES advertising is very very deceptive!

I think since my car still sees more daily driving then track duty, i'll be getting those Mugen hard rubber bushings from King Motorsports soon. They are high dollar but fwiw I'd like to see a comprehensive review on them.

good luck differentiating between them! they seem identicle to stock bushings, but by all means.
I believe one thing that has never been confirmed is whether or not these are infact harder than stock.

Well I'm sure they are... and juding them visually is no help as they are rubber... just like the stock bushings, just made do a higher stiffness. I have a durometer at my dipsosal so i'll give you exact hardness numbers when I recieve mine.

Nice, keep us updated I'm interested as well. I heard for their RTA bushings they are just repackaged OEM. My RTA is next.
