Post the location as well. There's a ton of shops out there and a lot of people only want to deal with local shops for the added security/service/etc.
Doh, tell him to join the club!
I, too, have a cnc machining shop..
What are his hourly rates for machining? That would help some of these guys..

i believe its 35 a hour hes located in sheboygan wi email is skcustommachine@excel.net send him an email with what you need
Will he do small orders? Like if I needed some flanges cut out and sent him a CAD file he could work off of?
I'll be needing a t4 turbo flange and two flanges to mate up to my manifolds(stock LS1 manifolds). Mild steel, probably like 3/8 for the manifold flanges, 1/2" for the turbo flange.
If he can come close to prices of guys already making the stuff, I'd give him my business.

answer yes he will do 1, 2, 25, 50 doesn't matter to him. i think you having a cad file to work from is the best bet, then he can just type it in and it will make it. other wise i think he would charge a fee to draw it up.but im not sure.
as for the laser engraving he told me once before that he can do engraving but i don't think its with a laser but then again im not sure.
as for the guy that said he be out of business. i don't think he going anywhere and his rate is the lowest he could find other company's doing it for so to hang with the competition you got to start there. you guys have to remember this is Wisconsin not California people work for cheaper rates around here
im going to get him to sign up on HT so people can talk to him. i don't know much about this machining stuff and he can make a list of all the service he could provide for ht members, cause i know he can check heads for straightness and machine them flat. so theres probably other stuff he can do.

is this a joke?
how do you afford tooling?
is this a joke?
how do you afford tooling?
No this is not a joke.
All my equipment is payed for except one lease. Im tying to keep my overhead as low as i can. I look for the lowest prices on the tooling i use. At my old shop that i worked for, they spent alot of money trying out alot of different brands of tooling. The end result was we found good tooling that lasts and it was a small shop so we had to use the correct speeds and feeds and make the tooling last. The $35 an hour is the number that to the best of my knowledge is the lowest i can do and still survive. I feel the more small shops out there the longer more jobs will stay in the US. Thanks to all of you responding to mkw1s posting please feel free to contact me with any coments or conserns or anything i can help with. Thanks again.
