light weight wheels
looking to get some light weight wheels for my 00 lude, 17 lbs or lighter, but i'm focused on the look as well as the perfomance, so am i better with a 16 inch then a 17. I mean what can the 16 inch do better in perfomance taht the 17 can
not do aside being 1 inch bigger.
not do aside being 1 inch bigger.
you can run lower profile tires on the 17 inch rims so it could handle better. but the downsides are slower acceleration and rougher ride. depending on weight and size of tire. but a smaller rim of the same weight has less resistance to get rolling, so thats why a 16 will let you accelerate faster.

17lbs is actually rather heavy...my 15" wheels are 8.8 lbs. This may help: http://www.wheelweights.net
I would also say 16" because you will find lighter wheels in 16, plus it's just a good balance of comfort and handling because the sidewalls won't be too thin. You could also get some tires that are 5-10mm shorter than stock and have a smaller diameter for better acceleration.

Check out the Konig Feather's in the 16x7....look pretty clean too.

Lower profile doesn't always mean "better" handling.
Also, if you take a large wheel with a small profile tire versus a smaller wheel with a larger profile tire, you're going to get the same (or close) overall circumference. So the acceleration deal is questionable. A smaller wheel is said to allow you to accel faster solely based on the assumptions that it is lighter and that you'll end up with a smaller final circumference.
What you're saying is true in some cases, but if you properly size the tire, you can avoid certain pitfalls of changing tire/wheel sizes.
OP: as a matter of personal preference, I'd go with a 16" wheel, lighter will be cheaper, tires cheaper, and IMO it won't look like a rice machine. I'm not big on big wheels.

i ve got the track light in a 16 inch and only wiegh 11.5 pounds each and you looking to get good tires get some falken 615s they have thick side walls and really good traction. they have 215 45 16 slightly smaller than stock and will be faster accel.

If straight line acceleration is what you're worried about, get the lightest wheels you can find; you'll also get improved braking as the rotating mass is lower and easier to stop (and obviously start). Personally, I like the look of bigger rims and less tire, so I would go 17's (have 17's on my 97 SH). Generally speaking a lower profile tire will handle better in corners because the sidewall is more rigid. What kind of money are you looking to spend? If you have the $$, I'd say look into Volk or Work wheels, but if you're on a budget (as most of us are) I think Enkei's, PIAA's or Rota's are also a good choice and more affordable. Smaller will be cheaper, but that doesn't mean you can't find a moderately priced, lightweight, good-looking 17" either. Let us know what you decide.

i'll spend a grand for wheels maybe a hundred more but that's the limit then of course tires i still need to do research on that. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gstrudler »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

Yea, i do like the look of the 17's too but i figured the lude is already a heavy car and aside from the usual MODS CAI, EXHUAST, Wheels and TIREs are the next best mods i can do to help my performance so i figured i'll stick to the 16's.
BTW how much do you guys generally spend on wheels?
