In the last couple of weeks my transmission has started to make a noise similar to grinding pebbles. According to my cousin, from a long time ago, it's a bearing in the transmission. It's not functionally bothering me, but I just notice that it only grinds at 1500rpm~ of any gear. below and above it doesn't grind. Searching around I've only found bad 3rd gear synchros threads.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but my 2nd gear does pop out sometimes, which is another problem that I have yet to address.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be grinding? It's not the crunching sound of misshifting, just a light metallic pebble grinding type sound.

 

Honestly, when you have a good day's time to work on this...pull it on out, and crack it open. Probably needs an ISB and some other odds and ends.

 

I'm scared to open my tranny, lol. I don't have the tools needed to remove all of the gears safely.
What's an ISB? I haven't worked on my civic in a while so my vocab is kind of bad now.
