Any way to hold the auto tensioner for the timing belt closed without the stopper tool?
As the topic says, is there any way to hold the timing auto tensioner closed while it's being installed without the honda stopper tool? The local dealer wants 25$ for it, and hondaautomotoveparts is about the same with shipping. Just trying to save a buck
Thanks

You should be replacing that tensioner with a new part, and they come with the stopper already on them.
If you insist on reusing it, which is a horrible idea, you can use zipties to do it, two in an crossed pattern will do it.

we just did the swap this weekend. put it in a vice. screw the tensioner back and hold the screwdriver there until someone puts 2 zip ties around it. slowly let loose then screw the nut back on. it should work long enough to put in. then bolt in the other 2 screws on the block and snip the zip ties. redneck stopper but it worked.
I dont have a pic but I made my own tool out of a the door handle bracket from a honda civic, works perfectly.
