Default 26" slicks on CRX

What does it take to run 26x8.5" slicks on a CRX? I don't have to run by SFWD rules and will be pushing around 800 whp. What kind of time loss will I be looking at compared to 25x8.7"?

Dude. To be honest, if your pushing 800 hp, you shouldn't be asking any questions about traction, we should be asking you!

What a smartass answer. Just because he's building the engine setup doesn't mean he knows how the bigger tires are going to effect how fast it runs, do you think everyone who's out there building a fast setup for the first time magically has all the build-in knowledge they need about how to hook it up?

26's definitely don't fit under unmodified stock fenders. I used cheap fiberglass fenders last year, and just cut them to fit the slicks. I'm getting a JCR front kit for this year so I shouldn't have a problem with fitting them. I would definitely make sure that your drivetrain is well fortified (which I'm sure it is with your hp numbers). Going from 24.5's to 26x8.5's I dropped about .3 to .4 secs, but I also had more power too (about 80 more whp). I don't have wheelie bars set up yet, and as I'm sure you know, our short wheelbase doesn't help with traction. My best 60ft with the 26's was a 1.65, if I remember right, with about 5.5~6psi of air.

Edit: I used M&H slicks too. 26x8.5x13's

I think you have to move the bumpher out and the coilovers up all the way, but you have to watch when you do the turn out.

I personally ran M&H 25/8.7/13's and had a ton of clearance after I adjusted my coil's(Great tire btw). I've seen Ballard's crx when he ran on 26's on a 15" rim and he had some clearance in any but not the greatest turning radius, car had to be turned like a car with a spool. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Well very interesting you bring this up.

We actually run 26/8.5/15 (MT ) on our CRX. There are a few things that you will need to cut out in order for these to fit. The inner fender by the strut will need to be modified to clear. The CRX has a 1/2" lip on the inside as well that will either need to be cut off and welded or knocked over with a hammer (as a quick fix). Also depending on how low you want to get the car you may need to cut some more out toward the front of the tire and at the very top. I will try to take some picture for you and post them.

BTW our car does run a 1 piece front end as well.

what spindles did you run with the 26s my 24x7s are vary close to the spindle with no spacers on. I will be changing to DA spindles to acomidate my dss stage 5 axles. are they taller and have more wheel clearance on the back side? just wanting to know what im up for thanks

We run the DA spindle with a 1/4 spacer. with Weld (5" backspacing, if I recall correctly).

People really need to understand that even though a specific tire may fit now.
you still need to compensate for tire growth.
