engine swap question V6 in CRX ?
ok so i have a lil question for you guys since i know nothing about honda beside the 2005 honda civic has the highest reving slowest motor ive ever seen. and I can hose off the floor in a element lol and pretty much all the engine ive seen have no torque at all!! thats my honda knowledge
since im a DSM/mitsubishi/mercedes/BMW guy,its all new to me and i have a little project wich involves a Honda.
i have gotten ahold of a really clean CRX with only 115000 kilometres on it (88 model year i think its a Si, the car has a black lower part) but the engine is shot and the tranny is a manual.the car is for my wife and she cannot drive a manual
so it must be automatic and unlike her mother 2005 civic we want the car to budge when we step on the gas so here is the million dollar question:
will a honda accord V6 engine (from a 2002 fit in the CRX ,auto tranny and wiring included, im getting the part car and have a garage and machine shop i can use)
sorry for the long post and thank you for the answer

Not with out insane fab work.
Best bet for ease of work is swap in another D series motor and auto tranny, if you are willing to spend money fab and have fun, people have done a B swap with an auto.

the b and d engine are 4 cylinders right, the thing id like to achieve with the car is to have a torquey engine, thing ive never seen on a honda, the torque # stock are always a LOT lower than the hp number
the V6 was ideal in term of torque & power + like every V6 engine it runs at around 1200 to 1500 rpm on the highway opposed to 3000+ at 120 kmh with a 4 cylinder

Yes both are 4 piston motors.
What a motor revs to on the highway is more about it's gearing, and a little D running 3ish on the highway will probably be doing just as if not better then the accords 6 at 1500ish.

It would take an insane amount of work to get a V6 into a CRX.
If you are a proffesional welder and wiring guru, have at it.....otherwise it'll cost
a mint to have a shop do it, and finding one that will/can will be a trick too.
Just repalce it with an auto D and put a small turbo setup on it.

A word about Hondas and torque. Contrary to popular belief, Honda motors are really not at all bad when it comes to torque. If you compare the torque of a Honda motor with ANY other motor ou there of equal displacement, you will find that Honda motors are not too bad. Also, Honda motors actually have pretty flat torque curves. So it's not like there is nothing on the bottom, with everything on top. Rather, the problem is that Honda tends to put UNDERSIZED engines in cars of a given weight. For instance, the K20 is a GREAT motor when it comes to HP and torque. Ask ANYONE who has swapped a K20 into a CRX. It's just that the 142ft-lb of torque that it produces is on the low side for a car that weighs almost 3000 pounds (like the 2006+ Civic SI). The same goes for the ~165ft-lb torque that the Element produces. It's just kind of underwhelming in something as big as the Element. This, of course, is made worse by the fact that NO V6 is even offered. But this is where swapping comes in.
If you REALLY want torque, a good bet would be to swap in an H22A. Yes, the H22A is still just a four cylinder. BUT, keep in mind that the 156ft-lb of torque that you get from an H22A is going to feel STRONGER in a lightweight, 2000-2200lb CRX chassis than the 200-240ft-lb that you get from a V6 would feel in a 3000-3500lb sedan. HOWEVER, having to go with an automatic transmission is going to make pretty much ANY swap you might try (above and beyond a D-series) MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more difficult, if not impossible. And I have never, I repeat NEVER heard of ANYONE doing an automatic H-series swap. I would seriously recommend having your wife learn to drive a manual transmission rather than going through the difficulty of trying to swap over an automatic. If it is SHE who wants a fast car, then she will certainly get MUCH more enjoyment from a manual transmission as well (once she gets past the barrier of driving one). But if she refuses, then I seriously recommend that she have her own car with an automatic, as the need for an automatic transmission in a Honda will put a SERIOUS damper on your desires for performance.
A word of warning, though. Because the H22A originally came from a 3000+lb car, gearing is short. You WON'T get 1500RPM at 60MPH (it will be about 3000RPM). But if you slam your foot to the floor in fifth gear, the car WILL take off like a rocketship. And it will be able to climb impossible mountain grades without ever downshifting. If you want insanely low freeway revs AND some torque, do a D-series swap with an HF transmission.

If it has to be an automatic for your wife, i don't see her caring what the torque output is. Sounds like she just needs a daily driver. If she HAS to have torque, do like the guys above are saying and just turbo a D-series motor. A V6 would be so torquey it would make the CRX noisy and uncomfortable to drive daily. Drag car?: do it to it. Daily driver for the wife: bad idea.
A V6 swap would take up so much time and money that by the time you finished it, your wife will have left you and will be filing divorce papers on grounds of neglect.

Or, like I said, have her get her own car. Seriously, CRX + auto =

You like DSM's and you're saying Honda's have no torque? LOL. Put an LS swap in that CRX. I could go up hills at 30mph and never have to down shift. It's the cheapest B-series swap. You seriously need to take a ride in a GSR swapped hatch or CRX so you stop hating on Honda's and saying they are torqueless.

If you ABSOLUTELTY have to have an automatic CRX, then go with an automatic B-series with a supercharger and that is as fast as you're going to get.
I will probably be doing this swap sometime in the future into an EF V6 3.5L 5 spd... however fitting the actutal engine in wont be too much of the worry it would be the electronics of it and the TCM for the auto trans and wiring....
An automatic trans in a b series crx is impossible without the same type of fab work involved in putting a v6 in. I have been there and done that on a round track crx for a customer. I have measured the 3.5 v6 from the Nissan and it looks impossible without running a tube frame rail set up. There is a post on here somehwere a guy put the v6 in an ef chassis, you might search and find it.

Good point. Although I have NEVER done a B-series auto swap,I know that the auto transmission is HUGE. It is MUCH mroe cylindrical vs the manual transmission AND will NOT work with a Hasport kit. Seriously, the need for an automatic transmission is going to complicate things GREATLY. Either have your girl learn manual OR get her another car of her own.

Ok like everyone said, buy your girl a freakin V6 auto Mustang and take the CRX and do something good with it. Your girl will be happy and you will be happy. The mustang is light and you'll get enough hp and torque to drift with out of it's 3.5 v6. Then you have the crx you can do a k20 swap in of even a j35 take it to a drag strip and walk all over
v8 mustangs and camaros. Trust me I own a 98 camaro with the 5.7 LS1 it's all stock and I got my *** handed to me on a strip against a EG with an all motor k20. I got a 90 Civic Si that has a D16 with a five speed and I close to the same strip times as a fox mustang with a stock 302 (the 5.0L/biggest mustang engine ever) and all I have is intake and light weight fly wheel. So listen to the people on here, they know what they're talking about.
