Default Help...serious ignition issue, i think?

My car is running extremely rich right now, I have a scangauge in the car that tells me certain parameters of what is going on in my engine and right now my gallons per hour is running like 7-9 gph. It is usually .5-2.5 at most! I am in pittsburgh right now and did a tune up the other night with new cap rotor and checked the gap on my plugs and things like that. Im not sure what might have happed, but is there something i could check or change that would make it run so poorly. As i don't know what is going on, very low on power and rather sluggish. Would the incorrect gap on the plugs kill my mileage this bad? thanks for the help

Is your Map Sensor plugged in and/or working correctly? Is the 02 sensor working right? Whens the last time you did a tune up?.

the car/motor only has about 65k on it and when i got the car at 57k it had new parts on it. everything else is hooked up and there are no codes being thrown or anything. I had the timing advanced then i retarded and nothing. Somehow one of the screws that holds the distributor cap on was broken off and i drilled it out and replaced it and such but in the process the rotor spun around a few times and such but i don't think that should have done anything. Still not sure, whats going on

Also if the o2 sensor was bad wouldn't that throw a code?

Compression test lately? Try another fuel pressure regulator...you might have a broken one.

the car is running fine but seems to be down on power, more then normal, with this motor. Something just isnt right, it just seems wierd if something else is wrong when i did all of this other stuff. I just want to make sure something i did isn't or is a problem

I still am not getting anywhere. I will be getting new plugs tomorrow and take more of a look at tonight. One of the screws that holds the dist cap on is broken off in the dist but the 2 other hold th cap closed could that have something to do with it? It has been like that since i have owned the car and it hasn't been a prob till now since i messed with it?

changed the plugs last night and still no better. Was thinking maybe the ignition coil wasn't working properly, is there a way to test it?

Still not getting anywhere with this!

So everything that i looked at or touched the other night before this started happening has been replaced and is working fine but something is still not right. It seems to be dumping fuel at all times. I thought it was something that i was messing with the ignition since i was working on that but i guess its some kind of coincidence that something else isn't working.

i already checked the regulator and its working fine , but i haven't checked the injectors yet ....i guess if anyone has any ideas let me know!

pull the injector wires off one at a time if they are working the rpm should drop. if it isn't it should stay the same

Im having somewhat the same problem, missing some and drinking gas like its chocolate milk ,lol. I still havnt fully found my problem but things that made it better were: changing the tps and adjust it, and new vacuum line from the fuel rail to the fpr (mine was cracked). Keep us updated though, and good luck!

Ok heres the thing i have a scangauge for my car, which im sure you can imagine reads things like tps, gallons per hour, load on the engine ,mpg, mph and a whole list of other things. From what that has told me my tps has been constant and i can also read and clear codes and i don't have any right now.

I was just about to do my intake mani swap from y7 to y8 and all of that but im not sure i should. I am so puzzled what to do.

Even this afternoon i unplugged the injectors again and disconnected my bat to reset the ecu and it seems to be a little better but still bad, as in i am almost getting sick from the gas fumes.

Also seems there is something coming out of my tail pipe, which has never happened before in the 1.5 yrs, i know some say its just condensation and ish , but its never happened before!

do u have good flow coming out your exhaust it could be a clogged cat. and if u are dumping lots of fuel it it is on its way to being clogged because all that unburned fuel will burn in the car

Is your idle crappy too? Mine has been and i have mega gas fumes also. But i cleaned my fitv out like 5 times, then i decided to change out the inards from some others i have and it got a little better. I think im going to need a new fitv/throttle body soon ot fix it but not sure. But i still have some gas fumes, you might could give it a shot. We both need help, lol.
