Buying a 94' GSR with 200k miles... is there a market for the high mileage parts and for how much $
Basically, I'm thinking about buying a 94 GSR with a little over 200k miles for a good price.. I'd be pulling out the GSR engine and swapping in a newer LS motor for boost... Same will go for the transmission unless I think the syncros are good enough to last a little longer..
Question is.....Is it worth buying the GSR just to sell the motor to someone who is going to rebuild it and if so what kinda $ am I looking at getting for it.. VS. getting an integra LS with mileage under 100k for around 5500. ?? . These are all highway miles, and this is the 2nd owner since 95' or so...
Let's say I can get the car for around 4000.... I'm thinking I could sell the longblock for around $900.. sell the ecu for $300 and possibly sell the transmission for $400...?? That right there is $1600 dollars.. that knocks the price down to 2400 for a GSR shell that only needs a motor and transmission and ecu...
Also, if I take into consideration the GSR wheels I could sell and use my Rotas instead I'd be looking at another quick $400 in my pocket (w/ tires).. that knocks the price down to $2000....
Next... haha.. you thought that was it.. The front leather seats are somewhat worn.. but still worth $.. I'm guessing I could easily sell them for $150... That makes the grand total price i'd be paying for the car after selling all related parts
$1800...
Now.. I'm assuming I could locate a low mileage LS motor for around $500 and a used LS transmission for around $600 or a GSR for a little more plus an ls ecu for 100 (I'm leaning towards the GSR trans for quicker spool). That means I'd be paying about 1100 + 1800 = 3000 for a low (under 60k) mileage integra without seats.. Throw in some del sol's for an extra 250 and voila...
$3250 for a High mileage GSR chassis with low mileage engine parts.. upgraded seats... and my rota wheels....
plus.. if I want to go more extreme I could sell the guage cluster and swap for a LS gauge cluster and pocket another $50 moderatly speaking......
Am I crazy, or is this worth doing?.. I know these are a lot of #'s to crunch but if everyone could just make sure what I'm estimating I could re-sell the parts for is correct....... plus, I don't mind doing all the work cuz I plan on doing some weight reduction also...
TIA.. could you have ever guessed I'm a finance major?

if you buy any car with 200k miles, remember it's not just the motor and tranny that has 200k miles on it.
With that many miles, a lot of other things will start to go. Belts and hoses, radiator, alternator, starter, water pump, etc. etc. etc so don't assume that an engine swap will negate all that 200k miles.
Also, the chassis could have rust on the key weld spots, all the bushings are probably worn out.
I have an 87 GTS that I just acquired and I am continously changing parts though the mileage is less, at 170k.

No matter how you look at it the chasie will still have over 200k on it. A 94' with 200k is very very high miles. If i were you i would look at buying an LS with average miles and doing an LS VTEC or if you want to go real fast you can go with a B20 bottom end with GSR head.

Thats really high mileage, I dont know that I would buy it unless you were planning on rebuilding everything.
As long as its rust free, and he is planning to do some major work on it I don't think it should be a problem. Honda/acuras are well built cars.
Bushing are definetly squashed, but a full set of polyurethane suspension bushings will fix that.
If you are going to replace alot of the parts for performance oriented it really would matter less. For example if the suspension has some rust, but he plans on getting big sway bars, shocks/springs, camber kit, etc its not that big of a problem.
I would look very carefully at how well it was maintaned. Its going to matter much more at this point, instead of buying a car with 60k miles on it.

120k is about average miles for a 94'. So i would have to say you have low miles on your car.
Instead of seeling the GSR motor for someone else to build, why don't you build it yourself? Seems like a perfect oportunity?
Either way, buy it.

Out of curiosity, what is the average miles expected for a 94 GSR? i have 93K on mine.
i think ur aksing too much for the hi mileage GSR tranny
u can get LS motor and tranny for about $750
Turbo kit and misc things for about $3k or so
sell ur motor and tranny for about $600-800

Ok.. thanks for all the info.. all I really wanted to hear was the price I could get for the parts in the integra... I guess I'll just look for an LS with lower mileage to boost....
To bring this GSR back to life is gonna be too much work.. plus it's gotta last me two years with little maintenance... these last years of college are gonna be a bitch!

the money you spend on rebuilding everything is worth the time looking for one with lower mileage and a good price
