Yet more car problems... exhaust? Fuel Filter? Help!
Alright ... A little background. I got my custom exhaust done almost a year ago... and about 3 months ago the exhaust tone went from deep sounding to extremely weak and not as loud. The sound wasn't nearly as nice as it was but.. I couldn't afford to have it looked at to see if anything was wrong or to find out why the exhaust tone had changed so much. Now to my problem. A few days ago I was driving in 4th and the car started to bog down and stutter like I needed to downshift.. I hit the gas a bit more to keep from downshifting and the car jerked and the check engine light came on. I pulled over.. managed to get it into a parking lot.. turned off the car and tried to start it again. When I crank it, it sputters like it's about to start, but dies.
I've looked up some things online relating to the symptoms my car has and whenver I come across a thread about the car not getting fuel... the symptoms sound similar. Sooo I'm thinking fuel filter.. fuel pump? My father had the car before I acquired it and I imagine he never got the filter changed. But then I started figuring in the weak sounding exhaust.. and started reading online about clogged cat converters. My problem is I have one shop I take it to for everything exhaust related and a differant shop for everything else. I'd hate to have it towed to either of them only for them to tell me it wasn't something they could fix.
So my car currently sits in a parking lot ... & here I sit debating what route to take. ANY HELP or suggestion is appreciated!
93 si 2.3L 112000 miles.
Work I've had done: 'new' used engine put in at 110000 miles, new clutch & flywheel, replaced main relay, custom 2.5 exhaust, megan header, switch to synthetic oil. ... I think thats it.

Well you can start by telling us what code you have on the CEL light. That will get the ball rolling. And you have a custom exhaust, unless they reused the cat, it should be fine. I takes years and years to get a clogged cat. But weird **** does happen
got it towed to the shop and it's a bad distributor ... Now I just need to figure out why the tone of my exhaust has gotten so weak.... Perhaps a stupid question but would the distributor have any effect on the tone of my exhaust? If no then what could it be? I realllly don't want to take it to the exhaust shop and pay out the ***..... again..

Yeah.. my mechanic is japanese and his engilsh is kind of hard to understand at times and when I explained the code he kept insisting that he didn't understand how it could be the crank sensor on a 93.. because the crank sensor is in the distributor?? I have no idea.. but he called me a couple hours ago and said for sure it's the distrib. N so more good news.. my radiator is cracked. Ugh.
