No idea what this is called, and how do i get it off?
Selling my hubs soon, and I need to know how to get this joint off. What is it called?

I crashed my ef and here are the pictures before anyone asks for them.

Outer tie rod/tie rod end.
Seriously this is how I get them apart:
Take out the cotter pin from the castle nut (if it had one in it), then remove the castle nut.
Then hit the end of the tie rod hard with a hammer, just above the rubber boot area - it will pop off of the knuckle/spindle fairly easily after a few good whacks.

If that won't work I put the floor jack under it and jack up the car till it pops it through, works every time.

I tried the floor jack method, where exactly do i jack it up from? lift up the whole hub or on the bolt or on the Outer tie rod? And i tried whacking it 3 times, but it didn't work and I dont wanna keep trying because the neighbors are going to complain. and will the jack method work if everything is on jack stands and theres no motor in the car to weigh it down?
Hey i think the best way is to go rent or buy a pickle fork set. Ask for a ball joint remover at the autoparts store the fork is good way of removing ball joints u hammer it in and then hit like 4 hard times and it pops out

That is the only way to do it. Why would you do it any other way this is the easiest method and it works every time

x3, Hammer it. Hit it from all angles but dont hit teh rubber. It'll budge and break free.

I guess it's important to note that a typical household claw hammer won't do the job well.
I personally have a Snap-on hammer, but obviously there's not a Snap-on store around the corner so the next best thing would be mechanic's stle ball peen hammer available at your local parts store, or better yet Sears, Lowe's, or Home Depot:

Jack it right up from the bolt.......might need some weight though since the motor is out...

Guess what, jack trick didn't work for me, I just banged on it like 5 times with my mallet on the under side of the nut and voila! pops out.
@ef9_b20 I don't want to go through the hassle of shipping those. If you really want it just come by Tacoma and give me a call, it won't be worth it though.

You don't want to hit the actual ball joint. You want to hit the end of the hub (The part that has the tapered hole in it for the ball joint). Also it should be mentioned that you should only back off the casle nut a few turns so that the ball joint threads are protected from the hammer, and this will also prevent stuff from falling apart when it pops. I have been working as a tech for 10 years at a few shops, and have never seen any seasoned mechanic do it any other way. The heavier the hammer, the better!

then you did it wrong.
i have never had to use anything more than a hammer to remove a outer tie rod end.
there are better ways than lifting a car by the threaded portion of the outer tie rod, even if you are just going to replace the tie rod end anyway

Pickle fork ftw in my case the boost came torn so it doesnt really matter and some times those thing are so stuburn the only way is to use a pickle for and beat on it till it wedges it out. And do not hit on top of the treads or u will have to cut the treads where they get smashed to be able to put the nut on.

You're an idiot, Ive done that more times than you are years old.
It never lifts the car up, just the suspension, and never any more than maybe 6 inches......And it saves whacking the **** out of things with a hammer.
And it works EVERY time that the hammer fails.
