Default Si vs. HF

My current project is to drop a b18c5 into a CRX. I have been looking thru my area for a CRX, but the closest Si I can find is about an hour and a half away, doesn't have reg. so I can't get it to a mechanic, and has some bad rust appearing. The guy want just under 3k for it. There is also and HF much closer that needs brakes, and some body work. But he want 1k for the car. I know both cars are capable of taking the engine, what I am not sure of is how much more work the HF will be. Is it worth it to spend the extra 2k for the si and still have to do body work or will the HF be ok?

the hf is the lightest model giving it one major plus over the si.

All you need to do is get some si spindles/hubs for the hf and its basicly the same swap. Go for the hf , it's lighter and cheaper. Oh yeah the si has rear disk brake's and hf has drum's if that concerns you.

Si got sunroof and i admagine with your engine swap you will not do power losing AC so the sunroof is a must.

Only the 90 and 91 Si have rear disc brakes the 88 and 89 Si's have rear drums. I should know i have an 88 SI and an 89 HF. The HF is in need of an engine right now though But i would look for an HF if u were planning on running on the track. But for street use who cares. Good luck finding one.

Sorry. I sometimes forget that most of your rex's are your daily drivers, so hf for racecar ,si for street .

88 HF's are my all time favorites Rex's. Sunroof's aren't that great to me, and if you want, swap in the rear discs, but you don't really need them with good front brakes. I got a DECENT deal on my HF and I think light weight is the way to go.

Find the 1988 si.. it's the lightest of the si's and it's suspesion is unique to all the other model crx's it's the only year si. that has susp. like the ITR..

I know this.. I just redid all my goddamn suspension and when I ran into questions I just compared it do my father's type r.

didn't they stop production because of so many complaints about that system. I think at this point I am aiming for a 91 Si.

sidenote: If I dump a b18c5 I know I will need the jdm or jspec hood with more clearence on top but will an a/c fit on that engine?

I have an 89 HF that I'm dropping a CRVTEC into sofar the only problems are the knuckle/hub assbly and the vacuum connections. The connections are different than my buddies 88 si that we put a b16a in. Can any of you guys give me some help on the vacuum connections for the HF model.

in the end its all whether you want the extra options the Si came with. As far as the disc breaks go. Don't base anything on that. it would only make a difference on auto x. anyhthing else you probably wouldn't notice it. than theres a/c, you probably loose that anyhow. rear wiper, not much use. and a sunroof. personal preference. also if you dont' strip the interior you'll have some nice door panals and possibly the floor mats. as far as that goes I can't think of anythink else. I'm not sure but also, cruise and tilt?? Don't drive an Si, so i don't know for sure. think about it and TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!! dont rush it

The only thing you cannot have on an HF that comes with an SI is the power sunroof. But keep in mind that this comes with quite a hefty weight and weight distribution penalty. So unless you consider having a sunroof to be a VERY important part of the overall driving experinece, you might want to think about whether this is something you really want. And if you consider A/C vs sunroof, the A/C is actually lighter and does not screw up weight distribution as much. Because I don't like sunroofs and because all other HF shortcomings can easily be remedied, I would choose the HF. But then again, how bad do you really want a sunroof?

HF is definately the way to go. The only thing I don't like about them is the ugly blue interior.

I agree. Although I love my HF I can't stand the blue interior. The si door panels are just so badass.

I've got an 88 hf with b18c, and there is no additional problems with this swap. Oh yeah and I paid 400 for my hf, so do the math. It'll be under 5k when it all said and done. It just depends on where you want to spend your money, on the little Si badge and sunroof, or stuff to make it fast. Either way good luck with your project
