Default Crank Pulley HELP!!

Hey guys, Ok so today I was driving home, and heard a little noise, but between my exhuast, radio and interstate driving in the rain, made it not noticable. I go to check the mail at the end of my street, Open the door on the car, and there is a horrible rattling sound. I drive a few feet to my house and the rattling noise is coming from the front side of the motor. I cut the car off, and start nosing around, the power steering belt has play in it, very loose but other belts are fine. So at first I think the p/s is the prob, Then out of fear of the rattle I heard, I crawled down and wiggled the crank pulley. It is loose. It has some play, I can move it back and fourth. Can I just torque this bolt down easily? Whats the procedure, and the torque specs? Anything else this could be? Its downpour rain and I got work at 11 tomorrow. thanks as always!

INFO.... Motor is a D16Z6, timing belt tension was adjusted about 2 months ago which might have affected the bolt (Highly doubtful)

Not easy to torque without a special 50mm hex holder tool. If you have access to an impact, it's much easier, but not as accurate.

No impact, just basic hand tools...Any suggestions for that situation?

If u have the crank pulley tool, wedge it against the fender frame. then put ur socket and ratchet and put ur foot against it and put some *** into it and then u will b fine. Dont worry u wont break thatr bolt. I just did mine 2 weeks ago same way

Where can I get that tool? I put it in gear and torqued them close to 150 ft/lbs.. Thats all my torque wrench goes to, You think it should be allright for a 40 min drive to work and then get my friend to crank it down at his shop across the street?

another option is having someone get into the car, put it in gear, and stomp on the gas as hard as they can while you torque it as that will lock the crank also as if you have it in gear and you start to torque it you may just spin the wheels or the clutch.

If you can move it back and forth, sounds like you're either missing the keyway that holds the pulley in place or the keyway slot is stripped out. Best way to torque is a good impact, but the only other ways are to buy the crank pulley holding tool (snap-on, matco, etc) or have someone use a prybar to hold the flywheel in place while you tighten the crank pulley bolt other wise it'll spin. putting the car in gear won't help unless you got a lsd diff and a hardcore clutch pressure plate.

Well I got it close to 150 ft lbs with it in gear, (With both front wheels on the ground) I got a few clicks from the torque wrench, Im gonna try to get it to work and get my friend to crank it down. When I tightened it, there is no play anymore and it the belts are all tight again...

when you get access to a impact and some air i'd pull the pulley back off and check the keyway slot just to be safe. And then use the impact to torque the bolt back in. It's pretty hard to break or overtighten it even with a nice powerfull impact.

So you are saying to somehow torque down the crank pulley with the engine running? Please post a vid of you trying, it should be interesting.

So where can I get a new crank bolt....(We dont stock them at Autozone, My second job) The head on mine is a little worn and wanna get a new bolt and key in it this week...

I think that vid of you flooring the gas in gear while tightening that bolt would make my night, especially with the wheel on
