V-afc question. need help fast!
gotta 93 v-tec lude with dc header, catback exhaust, and cold air intake. but theres a problem, the car loads up with fuel, backfires, sputters, and floods itself out, so much so that the motor will even run backwards. especially after leaving an intersection or redlight. the car also does the occasional idle surge, but not too often. It has an apexi v-afc and ive heard nothing but bad things about that particular unit. ive checked numerous things such as mass air flow sensor, fpr, and tps. all check out ok. so im wondering if i ditch the v-afc would this possibly fix my problem? and if i do so, what all do i need to do in order to get rid of this unit without doing any damage? plz for the love of god help.
There's nothing wrong with a VAFC, it's just limited on what it can do compared to the other ECU's. Set all of the vafc settings to zero or default. If it still runs bad, it could be a VAFC not wired correctly. If not, it's not the VAFC's fault.
ive tried setting everything back to 0 and, wouldnt you know it. problem still persists. im thinking this thing is probably spliced into my ecu, i havent lifted the carpet to actually find out, but judging by the rest of the wiring in the car, i'd say it is. if it is, is it still possible to junk it?
you have to setup the car for your model. there are different engines with vtec that are not a 4 cylinder so you have to set it up accordingly. putting everything to 0 is not setting it up.
it IS hardwired to the ecu harness.

ive downloaded the manual for the vafc unit, and have set all settings accordingly. when i got the car all the settings were screwed so after i dl-ed the manual i fixed the settings that were wrong. and for a time it seemed to fix it, and yet the problem still persists. if i can find a tune shop ill most likely take it to them and tell them to fix it lol, as im sort of new to import tuning. the car is more often than not very hard to start, is it possible that the car could have possibly jumped time?
put the sensor in/out at 6
that will cause trouble if not correct
Another thing to try, go into Etc. menu, sensor check and see what the voltages are to 'PRS' and 'THR' If either are zero, it is DEFINITELY hooked up wrong..

and it does sound like a possibility you have a slipped a belt.. Except for the idle bounce, which is more likely a vacuum leak or FITV
ive set the in/out sensors to 06, and the ths voltage readings are correct and the unit is set accordingly. even after doing all that, i still have the problem. the car has an a/f ratio gauge installed and it often runs stotch to rich, which is normal. but when the car acts up up and sputters it goes erratic, and bounces all over the place.
