I've been wondering the same thing. Is it still the general consensus that buying a cheap e-bay CAI and throwing a good filter on it is your best bet? If so, I don't see the need to spend an extra $200 for the same effect.

Not to thread jack, (hopefully the OP can benefit from an answer to this as well) but how big is the risk of hydro-lock with a CAI? I live in NW Washington so rain is a big issue but I avoid puddles at all costs anyway. Would the AEM air bypass valve eliminate any risk? Thanks.

i like the v2.. its pricey but it sounds mean as hell.. And, I like it because it doesn't go all the way down like your typical cold air, stays in the bay. Helps keep added stress down when it rains ie hydro lock. is it worth 300? no. but if u gots some money 2 spend and want a bad *** intake..

Intakes don't really do that much in the first place, and having a risk of hydrolock (and it does happen) is most definately not worth it IMO.

i have found that if a cold air is tuned properly, it can literally do circles around a short ram. This is just based off h22's. Dont know about other applications.

I guess what I meant was compared to the stock intake setup, isn't there a pretty small difference...even once tuned?

thats the difference between a 3" aem cold air and a stock intake tube with a cone filter adapted to it.

blue is fully tuned with the short ram setup. Red was the last run where i added the cold air and made a pull. No tuning was done with the cold air.

Correction: Put it towards something useful lol. If you already have a decent header and the exhaust you want I say go for a tune.

Best advice so far.
I have an Injen intake and I wouldn't have it had it not been given to me. If you HAVE to get an intake, just get an eBay one. It's a piece of pipe with a filter. Use the eBay filter till it goes bad then get a K&N.

The v2 is a great intake, but it is not worth the money.

i luv my v2! huge inlet sounds nice. I believe its 4in. And, im definitely not concerned w/ hydro. also the outer layer of the tube acts more like a heat shield around the main tube. pricey but i wouldn't take it back.
