What do you track guys set CO height at?
I have had a Koni/GC setup(320lbs F/ 250R) for awhile. I was told by an older SCCA guy that my suspension was way too low and it wouldn't handle well on the track. He said my LCA's were at too much of an angle and would do bad things with the spring rate or something? Anyways it was tucking up in the fenders before and now after raising everything up Theres about a 1-1.5" gap between the top of the tire and the fender when looking at it from side. I do agree it rides better now cause its got more travel before the bumps hit on hard hits but whats the optimal height? btw thinking about going to the track.
The "optimal height" is the lowest you can possibly go such that you do not run out of suspension travel on the largest suspension compression at the track you will be running at. Meaning, it is entirely spring rate, vehicle weight, tire grip, and track dependent.
Alternatively, it is at the minimum height specified by the class you race in.
Realistically, with rates that low, you'll always be too low, regardless of the height you set it to. Leave it as it is (get an alignment if you haven't), enjoy the track, expect to find some seemingly random understeer as the front shocks hit the bumpstops, and consider stiffer springs if you intend to continue running the car on track. (I'm assuming a pre-01 Civic or Integra. You didn't mention what car.)
