Default Are Tuner springs and Retainers good for Pro Cams?

I have a set of Titanium Springs and Retainers. I know they are Skunk2.

However, I dont know if they are Tuner Series or Pro Series!

I Also Have some Pro 2 Cams.

Will it be safe to run my cams with the springs and Retainers?

The last thing I want to do is drop a valve after rebuilding the bottom end!

The Rev limit will be around 9k but will not see that very often as its going to be driven by my Gal.

Paul.

if its the last thing you want, then i would recommend the Pro series valvetrain as the tuner and pro series cams are two different can of worms.

i have tuner series springs/ti retainers with sk2 forged valves on pro 2's, no issues, rev cut @ 9000rpm's. setup has around 4k miles on it so far with ALOT of abuse and track time. my .02 cents

I 100% agree with this statement.

Pro2 and Pro series valvetrain.

and just by doing so you have voided any warranty that skunk2 may have offered.

pro series cams are a different beast compared to the tuner series cams.
use the according valvetrain for the cams. no need to skimp out on springs.

Read!

http://www.skunk2.com/Engine/i...SPPRO

Designed for pro series cams.

Verify the part number of the springs if the are tuner series, sell them and spend the extra 100.00 or so and get the pro series springs. It will be a lot cheaper than rebuilding you motor if you drop a valve.

Ok I get the point, Its not just the Revs! Its also the amount of lift given by the Cam Shaft.

Thanks for the Advice Guys.

a quick and easy way to determine which is which would be weighing them also. Skunk has the weights on their site.

Skunk2 has told us the Tuner Springs are okay for the Pro 1 cams, but for the Pro 2 and 3, you'll want Pro Series springs for sure.

They may work but if Skunk recommends Pro springs for Pro 2 and Pro 3, why not run them?

gotta love it.... i never stated that it would "make it okay" or that it would be covered under warranty. all i stated is that i know many people that have successfully used "other" springs with PRO cams.

So, you or they are going to cover the warranty if there is a problem?

lol exactly... just cuz some people do it.. and they do ok.. doesnt mean its the right thing to do... specially not the right thing to say on a forum where 99% of the noob readers follow the hearsay book... just too dangerous, we'll see more and more of " skunk2 broke, my motor blew up" plea

skunk2 told me that if i was going to run pro2 cams it would be in my best interest to buy pro series valvetrain, but pro1's will work fine on tuner series valve train

thanks for the concern, but if i was lookin for a warranty i wouldnt drive an 8 year old honda, non the less modify it. maybe when i build the 2.0L here soon ill swap the springs out? i know two other people running pro 2's down my way, non of them using pro series springs, no issues... one using supertech, other ferrera springs.

I dont have a warrenty so if I was to use Tuner Springs then drop a valve because of it I would be pretty unhappy.

My build is being done on a budget so its taken awhile to get all my parts. Im not going to take short cuts though as its gunna cost more in the long run!
