Default *** Q: What's your motivation on keeping your EF ? ****

I've always been a EF guy since about 1999
I've had eg, ek and accords but I always come back to the EF.

I've had my ef hbs si gsr/sleeper for 4-5yrs.... still not done moding it but I'm wondering if I should finish my project (turbo+paintjob ect) or should I swap the motor out, sell the stock car (still very mint) and move on to another chassie like the EK.

Here are the reasons why I started out with the EF
1) it was oldest honda with swap options
2) it's and old car so the base cost of starting a project is cheap
3) I fell in love with the boxy hard edge lines of the ef

* Now that EG/EK shells and used cars are fairly dirt cheap, still better condition that my mint EF hb si & swaping & suspension designs are better than the ef, I'm starting to really doubt is I should keep going or cut my losses thus far and build from a better/newer chassie.

<FONT COLOR="red">
q?
1) list the reasons why you love the EF chassie
2) how long have you had it, do you plan on keeping it for another 10+ yrs?
3) what is your motivation to keep going with it (other ef cars, loyalty, ect)

TIA
Charlie

1) I LOVE my rex! I always say it's my unbiological child (I've got a boy-6 & girl-4) because it's my other baby! It's a blast to drive, even when I had the stock Si engine it was fun. The design still looks great and the fact that it's no longer made is more of a reason to have it, it WILL be a classic very soon.

2) I'm proud to say as of this month, I've had my rex for 11 years! It sits in the garage next to our 08 Acadia and the 02 Altima (other family car) sits outside in the cold. I plan on keeping her around as long as possible. Both my son & daughter already want my rex when their old enough to drive or at least to own one.

3) I'm still looking to add, fix, adjust, modify, paint ect. my car, but time and $$$ own me! I even added the rear Si-R seats before we bought the Acadia so that I could pick up my kids (I don't get on the freeway with both of them in it) from school because I work from home. I just don't want to give it up. It truly is addictive, even when I see another CRX on the road I always twist my neck just to check it out.

This car is like the "Fountain of Youth", I still feel like a kid when I drive it and I can recall the first time I test drove it back in March 97 when I was 24 .

Well, I could go on but work owns me!!

I've been double thinking if I should finish my EF aswell (paint + motor) or sell it and move on to something newer for the "luxury" but damn, every single time I look at my EF I just can't stop staring at it... and the everyday thoughts of how perfect it will be when it's done (since it's a dying breed and you rarely see EFs anymore.. and when you do they're all beat up and rusted to shiet) always keep me from getting rid of it...

They're cheap, lightweight, and have plenty of modification options. I also prefer the looks of the EF's.

I've owned three EFs since I was 17(two CRX's and now a hatchback)...I'm 20 now so I guess that's not too long. I plan on keeping this car as long as I can, especially with gas prices going up.

At this point, i love it cuz it keeps the golddigging bitches off my dick haha. My ef keeps me mad humble. Its sorry so see that guys depend on their cars to pick up chicks. If a chick knows something about the old skool ef's she's my kinda gal. Nothing wrong with stepping your game up to something new, but its always best to stay true to your "roots".

Good point about that its the oldest swappable chassis, because it is! It has the double wishbone suspension and all that of any new car these days. Its rare to see clean ef's now. I have a four door, and I see them quite often, but it disappoints me that theyre all beat up, or someone decided to rice it out. I do plan on swapping a motor ina few weeks, but the main thing i love about it, is that its the first car that I really got to do major work on. When does someone ever get the chance to do that with their car? Only to an ef! But once again its a good humbling experience for me, cuz with the way things are going on these days, i dont want to be caught up being materilistic. Trying to fish for payments for my ride. Im only 19, so these cars are as old as me, and they grow with you. I would keep it for as long as I can, but the day I let it go, it will always be missed for sure.

I just got a shell from my brother...I always loved them as a kid but I already have a CB7 so im not sure what to do...They both have about the same upgradablility but the rex is a lot lighter but the accord is a lot roomier...

I was thinking of giving the accord to my mom since gas prices and start working on my rex...

Any suggestions?

1) I got it cheap and its cheap to keep running(well until I started the swap)
2) Had it for 2 1/2 years and Have no plans to ever sell it.
3) Theres so many upgrades out there and I want to do so many of them to it just for the fun of it. That and I love having people ask me if I want to sell it every time I stop. O and I want to keep it running so I can put a classic tag on it just to **** off all the people that have classic muscle cars.

1) Cheap, light, pretty peppy, an absolute blast to drive (not so much in the winter right now in Canada) and they just look awesome!

2) Ive had mine for almost a year now, not very long, but I had been studying them for about 3 years...I really wanted one. I plan on keeping it for as long as I possibly can. The car is starting to get rust spots here and there and honestly, it makes me very sad and depressed!

3) Its RARE! I have the only 4g Si in town and I'm proud to say that quite often people come up to me and compliment me on how nice and clean i keep it.

This year the car is getting some rust removal work (I pray to God I get all of it) and a new paint job to follow, and possibly a Z6 swap seeing as the old A6 is getting tired.

1) my avatar i made years ago when i first came to HT just about sums it up.

2) i've had this 88hf almost two years now, its my 7th EF, so why stop now?? lol

3) my motivation is the older it gets, the less of them you see on the road. its to the point now when i do find one, that isnt molested or dead, ill run red lights to get a convo with the person. either to compliment them on it, or make an offer on it if its stock.

fun, cheap, self maintained.

lots of reasons. i will go newer one day, i make plenty of money, so its not like i can't afford an evo or an sti etc. i certainly can.... but they are everywhere now. i see as many sti's in the tri-state area as i do mustangs. im sure for you guys in the midwest thats not the case.... but the cat is certainly out of the bag up here in the northeast.

its like im addicted to the increasing rareness of a clean EF, and a fun unique experience it brings when modded.

i've also made many great friends through these cars. maybe not people i see everyday, but good people i would consider more then a passing acquaintance.

recently i started working a job that supplied me with a vehicle, so now the rex is really only a weekend toy, which also allows me to keep it and make it more of a project car then a DD.

if you're thinking newer then you already understand the advantages of the newer chassis as well as their disadvantages. I'm not sure any of us can make up your mind for you, but i would finish the EF until its "done".

and by "done" i mean it in the terms we all use it, as a codeword for:

never.

I have owned a lot of them. si, dx, vtec swapped. I own one now and I just got a 92 civic hatchback.

the civic is a lot more practical. it has less rare parts unlike the crx(climate controls, fog lights, spoilers, power options, etc). the civic will accept a b-series on stock mounts, more seat swapping options. more room, a back seat, a rear window you can see out of, and the list goes on.

however, it does not have a "sports car spirit". the civic feels like a commuter car where the crx has a more pure sporty feel to it. Anyone who owns one knows what I am talking about.
Plus the car is so easy to work on, and the parts are cheap. This car will save you thousands in repair costs, property taxes, and insurance. plus they get better mpg than most NEW cars.

Lastly, no one can make this car again. with current safety standards. the new small cars are all longer, narrower, and much taller. plus they don't have the same looks or feel as a crx.

I love EF's. Right now i have a crx with mugen body kit and its not in the greatest shape but i still love it. its way more fun to drive than my 99 si was. I would LOVE to be able to build an 88-91 hatch. i think they look so cool. if anyone reading this has an ef shell let me know!

1. favorite body style. light weight. simplicity has always attracted me. and an ef is definately a simple car.
2. its a gokart!!! gokarts are fun! ef turning radius ftw!
3. i want to have nothing but efs for the rest of my life.
4. alot of things you can do to an ef. and when done right they are solid and rigid cars. i still have the stock dual point motor in mine but with ksports, wheels and tires, i still have plenty of fun, swap coming withen a few months though
5. ive always loved older hondas. i love everything about them, boxy style is just my thing also

1. I love EF's because if you swap a GSR motor on it, it will do 13-14's and stock Integra GSR's do 15's... including the type R

lol

2. I love EF's because their JDM front end is different

3. They are easy to work with.
