Default Type R Trans Help....

Hey guys, I just received what I was told was a USDM TypeR Transmission. It was my understanding that all TypeR transmissions are S80's and will have a stamp that reads L4E LSD. The transmission I received is an S80 but does not have the stamp. I will be opening the case tonight to inspect if it has a diff.

The question I have is what is the tooth count on a 4.40 final and how else can I tell if its a GSR S80 or a TypeR?

66 (ring gear) / 15 (pinion) = 4.40

and you dont have to open the case to check for a diff. just look through the openings for the axles and if you can see all the way through it has a diff.

Awesome!!! You can see straight through the axle opening so I guess its cool as far as a diff goes. I will be cracking the case to check the syncros too.

Thanx so much for the quick replies I feel a lot better about my purchase now. See y'all at the Expo!!!
