port and polish questions
so i purchased a head that is supposed to have a very good port& polish. it doesnt look like it has been polished but i was wondering if it looks ok and if someone could give me an estimate on how much they think it is worth. i got the head with gsr cams and gsr valvetrain for 650.
i want to know if i get ripped off or not, lmk if other pics are needed.
i took the pics as best i can sorry if they are a little big

looks like a worked head to me. Intake ports usually wont be "polished" fuel tends to fall out and cling to the port walls when its all polished up. id say you didnt get ripped off...if everything is good. take some better pics of the combustion chamber, the valve guides, and the seats and post those up i guess. some guys will pay a few thousand dollars for a complete head. good luck

I was under the impression that a smooth intake runner doesn't create the necessary turbulence to keep the fuel atomized and not pool/puddle.
looks like it was done without removing the guides, or done with not alot of time in hand.. look around the guides pre and aft.. there are areas that wasnt even touched, good or bad? dunno , since pictures cant tell alot..
ripped off or not? cant tell performance valvejob , and have better luck than an unkown head..

how much did you pay?
can't see too much of the exhaust work beside the knifedge.
intake wasn't worked over alot.
the pic's of the seat's aren't too clear
send it to a machine shop to get it check out

well just from the pics it doesnt look really bad but some stuff could be better. for everythig u got i wouldnt say that u got ripped off. i would have wanted to know who did the work before i bought it though.

by the looks of it, it looks to be a pretty nice port and knife edged runner job for a street car... 650 is a pretty decent price and as far as valve seating goes you are gonna have to do that yourself with the valves you plan on using... its pretty simple... just get the grinding compound (advanced auto sells it) and a suction foward and reverse tool (local parts store should sell them) and grind the valves till you get a nice smoooth grey band with no pit markes on the seat of the head and on the sealing surface of the valves...
Again i would have paid that for this head... Looks nice to me...

i like it.
although there are some areas that can use some touching up on, it looks like it will be a nice street head.
whoever did it has good hands and knows what he was doing.
bigger is not aways better.

I tried once but found the grinder much too cumbersome.
I heard if you leave the intake ports rough, the fuel with atomize so well it will actually start burning in the port instead of the cylinder.
