Default No reverse. Searched.

I have a buddy of mine's car which is a 2002 Civic SI and he has no reverse whatsoever. I've tried to do the 1st to reverse, the a little gas and a little less clutch, as well as the 4/5 to reverse with no luck. We are now currently in the process of pulling the trans so see whats going on in there if anything. I mean I've done my fair share of trans tearing down and troubleshooting, but for the life of me I have no idea what to expect to find gone wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks

no. I cannot even get the shifter to go into reverse whatsoever. Hence the problem.

Did you check the gear box? I would pull the console cover off and check that before taking out a whole transmission.

Can you get it into reverse with the shift linkage off and attempting to put it in reverse by hand using the lever on top of the trans?

No no reverse with the linkage off. But i tore it down yesterday and it was the 5th/reverse synchro setup. The reverse blocker ring created a whole new groove in the hub and sleeve from grinding it and made it impossible for the sleeve to line up with the reverse blocker ring and move into reverse, but I do appreciate your help guys. Just letting you know what ended up being the problem. Thanks agin.
