So I decided to cut out the bars in the trunk that hold up the trunk lid. To hold the trunk lid up, I put some shocks from a junk yard off an integra hatch. See the pictures below:

The problem is, they will work great for a couple weeks, then the shocks get weaker and weaker then die completely figure out why. The first set died aftter a while, and I thought it was a fluke so I went to the junk yard and got another pair. They died too. And they are not dying because of continual use. My car was parked for a week with the trunk closed. Then when I came back the shocks were dead. I don't get it. In the junkyard they were on an integra closed not moving probably for a long time. So why are they dying when I put them on my car? Could it be because they are upside down? I can't remember which side is up when they are on the integra. I am wondering if I go buy brand new shocks from the auto part store will the same thing happen? Any thoughts/advice? Thanks.

You are saying the 4 door civic trunk lid is heavier than a integra hatch?

So do you think it is because they are being compressed too far? I'll get a picture of how far they go in when the trunk is closed.

Well I just bought some brand new shocks from pep boys for a 92 (i think) integra. They work good and the trunk opens smoothly. We'll see if they continue to work. Return policy is 30 days. I paid 25 a piece. If you are doing the same thing to your sedan note the mounting location. You can see the holes from the first attempt. If you mount there, the trunk open light will stay on because the shocks will be pushing the trunk lid up. Where I have it now, the trunk will stay closed when popped, an with a light push upward will open up.
