spacers for rims?
I recently bought a pair of rims and tires from a friend, once I put them on but noticed the rims in front were clamping on to the front breaks cause them to lock. I had a few people tell me to just take it to Les Shawb and get spacers put in, I went there and asked but they said the spacers would not be a good idea and would cause the front wheels to vibrate. My buddies dad said they just wanted me to buy wheels from them which the guy tryed to get me to do. I just want some opinions on weather spacers are a good idea or not? thanks guys
They're right.
The problem with spacers is that they move the wheels out beyond the hub. When you do that, the wheels are no longer centered by the hub, only by the lug nuts. This makes them more susceptible to vibrations. (Some people don't have vibration problems with so-called lugcentric setups, but many others do.) Also, you have to have at least 6-7 full turns on the lug nuts, and if you don't, you have to replace the lugs with extended lugs to give you that many turns. And you may need either extended lug nuts or open-ended lug nuts.
It's also possible that it's not the spokes that are causing your brakes to rub, but the diameter of the rims.
All in all, your best bet is to ask your friend to take back the rims and give you your money back, and then find some rims that are made to be used on your car. Most 14" or larger rims for Civics and Integras will fit most Integras.
