Can speed sensors be dismantled?
As most of you know, the speed sensor bolts to the transmission with one bolt that holds down a very weak piece of metal which is the so-called "bracket" to the sensor. Mine broke due to overtightening (my friend broke it on me) on my JDM H22A transmission, so I went to the junkyard to get one out of an Accord. Now, my speedometer is terribly inaccurate. I brought my GPS with me to measure my actual speed, and it told me that I was doing 73 when my speedo read 85!
My question is, can I switch the top half of my Prelude speed sensor with the Accord one? It's a 2-piece sensor and looks identical. Is the measurement taken at the top of the sensor? It's just a gear at the bottom, so I'm guessing that the important stuff is at the top. Anyone tried this before? I can take pics if it helps.

ok. i will experiment with the broken sensor. not like i'm gonna find a jdm speed sensor at the dealer or the junkyard anytime soon. so once i open the top half, i can then remove the pin to retrieve the gear, correct? is this part necessary?

yes you should then be able to remove the gear.. Of course the gear is necessary.. thats what tells you how fast your going...
