Installed clutch kit this weekend and still have whuuring noise.
I thought I would be curing a "whurring" noise coming from the tranny that I assumed was a bad throw out bearing. So I buy a clutch kit that comes with new clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearing. so after getting it apart and al back to gether last night I fire up the car and the whurring is still there. I am assuming it's deeper in the tranny. I have 155K on the odometer and guess the gears are just getting old? Kind of sounds like the noise the tranny makes when you drive fast in reverse. The reason I thought it was the throw out was because when you push in the clutch petal the whurring stops.
Anyway, I saved my self $800 bucks minus the $125 for the clutch kit, the dealer wanted to charge to replace the clutch. Is anyone else getting this "whurring" from their manual trans?

Did you replace the pilot bearing in the flywheel? I had one go bad on me once and it made a similar noise. You could also try changing the tranny fluid to see if that helps...
also I had a very similar noise with the main shaft bearing in my tranny..... you can only hear when the clutch pedal is out..... as soon as you press the clutch in it goes away.... replaced clutch, mainshaft bearing and throw-out bearing and it went away....... my buddy had the same noise and i told him what to do but he only replaced the clutch and throw-out bearing and not the mainshaft bearing and he still had the noise
if you hear it when the clutch pedal is out and you don't hear it when the clutch pedal is in.... I bet its the mainshaft bearing

No I didn't, I knew someone would ask that.
Now I feel like an idiot.
I inspected the one I had and felt no resistance at all. It glided freely, was very quiet and had very smooth movement. The Honda sevice manual said only to replace if those things I just mention didn't check out.
Dammit, how can something so small be so much trouble to get to.

Yep, when the techs pulled mine out and showed it to me it had only 3 ball bearings left in what should have had about a dozen...not good. If you've gone far enough to take the car apart always replace what you can access. Most kits include both bearings for a reason. Lesson learned, though.
I wasn't sure how I was going to get it out either. I don't have the special tool to remove it and looks like I would have had to remove the flywheel and tapped it out with a same size socket and hammer.
Now I have to figure out when I am going to tear into it again. This time it will go quicker since I have done it once already. Man this stinks. I should get a lightened fly wheel, that will give me some incentive.
