What kind of mpgs do CRX HF's get in real driving situations?
I deliver pizza and am looking for a somewhat cheap car with excellent gas mileage, and I've seen claims that CRX HFs get upwards of 67 mpg. I find this a little hard to believe, so can anyone shed some light on the subject?
thanks.
thanks.
my b16 ef hatchback got 33 mpg this last fill up and that is also driving it hard half the time. but my friend has a crx that gets like 45 mpg...

Also remember that the HF transmission is geared VERY poorly for something like pizza delivery. It is VERY much designed around freeway cruising on level ground. Generally speaking, you really only have 2-3 usable gears for driving around town, with a HUGE gap between 1 and 2. And starting in first gear is almost like a second gear start on any other car. This will probably further hurt fuel economy for something like pizza delivery. So for pizza delivery, I would highly recommend using a DX or SI transmission in your HF.

Hey contrary to opinions my HF has averaged 39mpg in city and 46.5mpg in highway. Don't forget these things were rated at 49mpg city and 51mpg highway.
I would have broke 50mpg but I was running it at 75mph instead of the recommended lower speeds to maximize mpg the majority of the two 800 mile (350 mile one way plus a few 60 miles a day while at remote work location) trips I've taken in it withing the last month. I have yet to change the spark plug wires and distributor cap and rotor but I hope that will help out a bit.
Oh and my HF just broke 170K on stock HF engine and transmission.
I drive it in town and it's not that bad...at least I'm used to it but still not too bad. I mean I have a 350Z so there's no real comparison but hey I haven't driven my premium gaz guzzling Z in over a month so it'd definately saving me mucho dinero $$$.

My engine swapped HF (ZC sohc A.K.A.: d16a6) with an Si trans get's 37-40mpg with various driving, most of it on the highway. I'd say 80% highway and 20% city. And this thing will run high 9's in the 1/8th...
I want to do the HF 5th gear swap, or the .701 civic 5th gear (probably can't get the .694 anymore).
Oops, sorry to resurrect such an old thread...

If you're going to deliver pizzas I don't think the tranny swap will hurt your overall MPG too bad. Where are you located? I'm looking for an HF tranny. I can do the swap for you if you're close to 19020!
Well I have an 1991 Honda CRX DX/Base model and it's all stock and I still have all the papers for it to. It sad 27 city and 36 highway, and if you know your Honda's the Honda fit is almost the same thing but it's faster.
exactly!...thanks for confirming man! there is a lot more torque so that means you have to use less gas/power to move...so you save gas!
45-48mpg in a beat 250k mile stone stock 88 CRX DX here. Certainly an HF could do better.
Very easily. Don't drive like an idiot. When I'm just cruising around I get better MPG than the dealer ratings in all of my cars even my 400whp RX-7.

I remember acouple times me getting 52+ miles to the gallon in my old HF. God I miss that thing....I dont care if it did only have 60 hp.
on my stock 91 hf, me and my cousin drove from sacramento to longbeach (ca) with one tank. for sure i'm getting above 50 mpg....when you're calculating above 50 mpg, it pretty much isn't necessary to find out the specifics, lol. but for sure 50ish plus.
